The Coffee House Wall – 17th/23rd April

Posted on April 21, 2017

This is the Coffee House Wall for this week. I won’t say that it is your chance to communicate with us, as we are all in this together. It is, nevertheless, the Conservative Blog post that has no particular theme, and where everything is on topic. Let’s just remember that we want to avoid ad hominem attacks on others. We don’t want to engage with trolls. We want to moderate our language ourselves as responsible and mature adults, choosing to use fruity language only where it is necessary. This is our opportunity to show what the Spectator Coffee House Wall could have been like.

Apologies, I thought all seasoned Wallsters were familiar with the acronym NSY – New Scotland Yard – Headquarters the Met. once internationally regarded as tlhe very apogee of policing, an examplar of good practice and successful prevention and investigation of anti-social behaviour and criminal enterprise. Now … ” Head” and “quarters” combined is more likely to indicate the meeting of mouths and nether regions of tbose entrusted with the continuity of its function as a Force for good.

    S’funny ol’ world. Ennit?

Fred gets the hump with Trump:

    http://fredoneverything.org/first-transgender-president-trump-becomes-hillary/

Sadly, much of what he avers seems about right. Let’s pray that there are now enough level heads in his administration to steer him through the morass of internecine wrangling and venal chicanery. More crocodiles than nets in that swamp at the moment.

Newt is on outnumbered just now; perhaps he can act as an antidote to Fred’s pessimism.

Many good thoughts there in your post.

It looks like May has discarded the opportunity to cut foreign aid. No surprise there, It will cost her her credibility, not that she had much on CHW anyway… The long march continues, just as long as the tory party can hold the reins of power they will no worry about the damage the wheels inflict as they fall off the careering charabanc..

My wish list continues with a wholesale reform of the Policing and Justice system… including the return of beat policing and capital punishment.

Apologies, I just failed to see NSY, of course neither of us mentioned the creeping buggery and such taking place within the remaining privates of HM’s armed forces… I wonder how much Putin’s boys will worry about a good bitch slapping from the Queen’s Own?

    Trump analysed by Pat Buchanan.

“America First” thus takes a back seat to big-power diplomacy with Beijing. One wonders: How much will Xi end up bilking us for his squeezing of Kim Jong Un?

Trump once seemed to understand how America had been taken to the cleaners during and after the Cold War. While allies supported us diplomatically, they piled up huge trade surpluses at our expense and became virtual free-riders off the U.S. defense effort.”

Excellent take on the U-turn by the Donald, Noa, thanks for posting it.

There’s one aspect of the hot issue Pat fails to mention, it’s relevant. The breaking of the North and its unification with the South is estimated to cost around a trillion bucks (a study was done allegedly by one of the Wall Street banks, Baron forgets which one, it’s based on the cost of the German unification), who’s to pick up the bill?

Fred’s getting better and better, Frank, his Third Law of International Relations: ‘Never butt heads with a country that has a missile named the No Dong’, cannot be bettered, he misses two points though in this superb expose of the man he calls ‘the lunatic’.

Why did he turn? He didn’t have to, he skilfully managed to defend his policies, ideas, the ‘make America great again’ plan before the election when the whole of the Clinton woman’s crowd, the Dem’s political machine, the MSM were against him, why did he surrender after the count when it’s mostly the MSM kicking him (the Deep State chipping in clandestinely)? Only a deal, a mother of all deals can explain it, no?

The other aspect of America’s interference everywhere, which amounts to just messing things up, not having any plan B is what the barbarian has been telling you all along, there seems to have been no buyer of it.

To prolong her hegemonic control of things global the bigger the turmoil everywhere in the world the better for the Republic. In this his saying ‘if the Mandarin speakers don’t sort the North Korean fruitcake, I will’ fits like a glove. The fighting, if it happens, will not touch the Republic directly, it will hit Japan, China and Russia (and of course the whole of the Korean peninsula), demand or ammo, missiles and stuff will rocket, good money to be made on it, employment in the Republic’s plants making the gear will shoot up … That’s on the plus side.

On the other side of the balance sheet one gets the uncertainty of the North deploying nukes, the consequences of which are anyone’s guess.

    Robert & Noa

Whatever the manifesto has in it matters, of course, but not as much as the key message the saintly One should push in the seven weeks before the count:

She and her crew have to keep on saying to the electorate ‘give us a strong mandate to squeeze from the Brussels apparatchiks the best deal possible (1) to get the country reaching into the world, (and not just Europe), (2) to keep the Union together, and (3) to put an oomph into the great of Great Britain.

She does that, she gets in with a majority bigger than anything the Tories have ever got, Baorn reckons.

    ‘foreign aid’

Yes: surprising. It is the stupidity of having that law. They don’t even have to reduce foreign aid, just stop the rubbish aid.

Conservatives and anyone with good business sense would take expenses from income and see how much of what is left can be spared. To borrow in order to donate, and know that your grandchildren will be paying it back, is delusional. The aspiring working class understand that even more than we do.

Yes, BUT she needs to convince the country that she is on message. I think cancelling HS2 would go a long way to doing that. It is bogged down with the umbrella group and suppliers swapping people, causing accusations of collusion and other misdemeanors. It is a waste of money and will spoil the countryside for naught. A big move on Climate Change Science and its projects would be another!

The good burghers of Paris ran for safety again, so close to the first Sunday round, the French heir to Blair says we have to get used to such atrocities for many years to come, that’s a sure winner in a country of sharia, but not in a presidential campaign in France, he should know that, only one candidate proposes measures that could, if not stop altogether than at least limit noticeably the thugs’ freedom to kill at will, she’s going to be the next President of France, Baron reckons. The Brexit prospects look brighter for that.

It’s a General Election, my dear fellow!
Not a free home run on the basis of a promise from a politician and party who aren’t to be trusted. Whoever forms a government after 8th June will be there for 5 long and weary years.
Why don’t you want to argue for a government with a conservative ethos, even just a backbone?

Not many feel about the EU as the barbarian does, Noa, he did experience another undemocratic construct, knows what it’s like to carry the yoke of impotence, to be unable to have even a smidgen of influence on the way a society is run, to suffer without redress, but this piece talks nonsense.

Our leaving has been compared to a divorce, and divorce it is, as such it has to be done properly, one party may have decided it doesn’t want to carry on with the relationship, it has to however go through the rituals of the break up in a civilised, legally satisfactory manner, reaching a compromise that doesn’t punish either party to the former tie-up. This is particularly important if both of the parties to the break up still want to remain on friendly terms, and we do, the EU must want that, too.

When we joined the club, we’ve signed up to the clause 50, it’s our obligation to use it, no?

  32. Baron says:
    April 22, 2017 at 12:33 am

    Noa @ 00:24

Who else would you suggest then will furnish the conservative ethos, who’s closest to it, who can put the conservative meat on the bones of governance given the FPTP electoral system, the existence of the parties to the fight?

    Give Baron a clue?

Labour, the coalition, the LibDems? Hmmm

  33. Noa says:

    Baron 00.33

The agenda Mrs May is currently proffering, piece by piece, shows her to be, even more than Cameron, the heir to Blair.
No change to the disastrous course in direction set by New Labour, no root and branch reform. Merely a continuing shift to one world socialism.
In answer to your question. Clearly, if we want a change to conservative politics we will have to demand it of the candidates, and vote accordingly if it is not offered.

Ask yourself. If you are content to accept a socialist agenda now from the CP, why should they offer you a conservative agenda in five years time?

Much of what the article says is already proving correct Baron. There is a distinct possibility the EU and its constituent states will not agree to the terms of UK departure. In which case, what then? A nightmare without end?
A Gucci shoe, stamping in the face on Britain forever?
Or the simple alternative of unilateral termination?
    Which? What will it be?

  36. Baron says:
    April 22, 2017 at 8:09 am

    Noa @ 00:47

Lets demand it of the candidates, Noa, no problema for the barbarian there, in fact, he would have expected this to happen anyway, the electorate demanding the new Tory MPs to break from the policies of the recent past Brexit or no Brexit (it will happen not because of the centre’s interference in choosing the candidates, the FPTP system that ‘creates’ safe seats, the fact it’s easer even for the Tories to sail close to the winds of the progressives, who needs the never ending harping from the MSM controlled by them, i.e. the progressives.

We’re probably arguing at cross purposes except that Baron’s priority is getting out of the EU, fully, as cleanly as possible, irrevocably. This trumps it all because unless we cut the politically engineered, forced-down-our-throats umbilical cord with the Brussels apparatchiks’ construct we’ll get not only what you fear, the continuation of the ghastly Blair’s direction of travel, but a double portion of it (more likely treble if the Germans take over the EU fully).

Btw, have you noticed the Donald has apparently decided to put Germany before the UK for a trade deal, or so the sources in Washington say. Would it be May’s U-turn on his immigration policy that is the reason for it?, the guy’s is beginning to lose it, unless he recovers they should consider getting rid of him on the basis he lied to get in.

If the news about the trade deal’s priorities is correct, we need the deal, and need it badly if only to show other countries we have the backing of the rEpublic, then Baron will probably drop him (not that it will give him any sleepless nights, mind).

(Apologies for both the errors, the lateness of the response, the barbarian couldn’t overcome the tiredness last night, he was half asleep before posting the last rant).

This comes more under the ‘jurisdiction’ of one of our resident gurus, Noa, the one who once wore the police uniform. Also, the barbarian is causing enough ripples with his views on Brexit, but could it be that they screen the cases for investigation because there isn’t enough of them, the budget’s getting cut, hate crimes have to be looked into as a priority?

Those stories me my stomach literally heave and a red mist of anger decend over what’s left of my soul.

But what do you expect to say that I haven’t said a thousand times before?

    It can be summarised thus:

    1. The abandonment of the one-page tenets of the Peel/Mayne doctrine and its replacement by reams of prolix bollocks devised by brainwashed and politicised Police ‘managers’ who have been granted accelerated promotion as a result of college degrees rather than those obtained via the University of Life and Hard Knocks – after a suitable period of daily confrontation on the streets of our towns and cities and attendance at stipendiary magistrates courts and Crown Courts

    2. The removal of discretionary powers of prosecution by the police at the sharp end and the inuauguration instead of the deeply political Crown Prosecution Service.

    3. The insidious practices of the Marxist-based Common Purpose movement and the inculcation of politically correct policies via their courses and inter agency ‘leading beyond auhority’ partnerships involving police officers and local authority apparatchiks.

    4. The activist feministas and alphabet soup ‘sexual’ associations and racial associations, which have been granted excessive and egregiously disruptive powers within HM Constabularies.

    5. The comparatively recent practice of elevating clapped-out Comissioners and other Police Chiefs to peerages and thus ensuring even deeper politicisation of a once necessarily independent and essential backbone of the social structure of the nation.

    6. Demeaning that essential independence even more profoundly, under a false flag of ‘democracy’ , by appointing ‘elected’* Police and Crime Commissioners at great cost, in order to further politicise the function of policing.

The cunning of successive governments and the cowardice of overweeningly ambitious senior police officers in facilitating and ceding to this state of affairs is the conspiracy of this age.

    * elected by whom? In almost all cases, less than 20% of the potential electorate.

Either version does it for the barbarian, Frank, you should let it make available when the next enquiry on policing sits again, as it will, it cannot do nay harm to you, will be of a public record.

If only the first two of the points were to get accomplished, we were to go back to the original principles and the way of policing that had done us no harm and plenty of good, things would be immeasurably better.

As Baron says either version is succinct and apposite. An excellent analysis, with the end consequence of some minor justice for the unfortunate victim in this case, resulting in the departure of his father from a police force that needs people like him within it, not suing it for constructive dismissal!

Baron, your points are valid too, I did start looking through the GMP annual records for 2000-2010 but they simply describe a growing record of the abdication of responsibility and chasing the chimera of political correctness at the expense of the unprotected public.
Still, look on the bright side, the drunken antics of their unsackable senior female officers provide titillation for their Sun reading client base in Strangeways.

I am surprised the opinion pollsters have the sheer effrontery to poke their heads above the parapet, busily forecasting the Tory lead over Labour etc., plus the possible results of the election. After the shambles they made of the last two “events” in 2015 and 2016, where they weren’t just hopelessly wrong, they made an ocean-going b******s of the whole thing. About time they kept a low profile for a change.

Regarding typing errors when posting, back in the early 1960s I worked in the offices of a big company, using an enormous office “typewriter”, where the keys were circular, with a little metal rim round each one, and the individual keys were well separated with plenty of space between them. The result was that one’s fingers stayed exactly where they were supposed to be, and didn’t slither off on to the next key, unlike today, where computer keys are flat, and almost touching each other, so it is almost impossible to keep fingers in the right place. In the old days I could type pretty fast, and accurately, but now….. Of course in those days you had to be accurate, because correcting mistakes involved copious use of white chalk (this being before correction ribbons or Tippex had been invented). Nowadays it is so easy to alter a word that mistakes are of no importance. But I do miss the ability to type quickly, without errors, and without so-called predictive text making a nuisance of itself.

In a musical form like a ballad, or in a piece of comic verse, strong, regular rhymes will Add flow. In more serious poems, heavy rhymes often sound forced and ridiculous. A good poet does not feel that a poem has to rhyme and that what I am creating is not poetry if it does not.

    For Marine Le Pen

Things are changing fast, just as they should,
They’ve changed for the worse, now let’s change for the good.

The national pride has dwindled and died,
Call us whatever you want, we have God on our side.

Please do not fear what tomorrow might bring,
This extends further than a political wing.

I’d like to give The EU a personal thanks,
You’ve shown what a cancer man can create.

Were turning our backs and we’re done with your games,
If the countries collapse, we know you are to blame.

So thank you La Pen, You care for your land.
We’ll show those bastards where to stick their grand plan.

    Ode to Jezza

The life of a poor politician,
    Puts us under suspicion,
With the rules we comply, you we’d never decry,
Though we don’t believe in contrition.

The wages paid are so rotten,
Our expenses you claim are ill gotten,
You may say it’s uncouth, that we don’t tell the truth,
But we know it will soon be forgotten.

    After every election,
When you have made your selection,
Manifestos are binned so what, we have sinned,
They just need a little correction.

Each and every promise that’s made,
To action them that is forbade,
The politician that rules, think the electorate are fools,
None of you would make the grade.

    Subsidised food and drink,
To poverty there is a link,
What you cannot afford we take that on board,
Our arguments are just so succinct.

At PMQs we put on a show,
Now this may come as a blow,
In the politics game we are all much the same,
The truth is we don’t want you to know.

The next time you go out to vote,
You won’t hear any of us gloat,
We the high flyers are all bloody liars,
They should hang a rope round our throat.

At times you do leave us distraught,
Making complaints about what we have bought,
Like our defences it’s claimed on expenses,

Le Pen ‘pledges to ban organisations and deport all foreigners linked to Islamist fundamentalists, close extremist mosques and stop their financing from abroad, ban the public financing of cults, and fight jihadist networks by stripping bi-nationals of their French citizenship and via deportations and preventative detention’, exciting stuff for some, deeply worrying for the Brussels apparatchiks, why should it be labelled as Right wing, it sounds quite sensible.

On things economics she’s noticeably of the Left persuasion in one respect, quite sensible in another, she wants ‘to lower the retirement age to 60, reduce energy prices and taxes, and introduce trade barriers along with measures designed to help small rather than big business. Globalism’s out, measured nationalism laced with protectionism is in. The 35-hour week is sacrosanct, civil servants are to be protected’, all in all it’s unlikely to get the economy going, long term, it’s a recipe for a disaster.

The other candidates’ policies are mostly a replica of what Hollande’s been up to, nothing that would excite anyone, a menu for the plodders.

It’s not easy to get a hang on the mood of the sans-culottes what with over two thirds of them having jobs in the public sector, but it feels that they may finally take a stand on the rainbow project, go for le Pen, it wouldn’t shock if she squeezed through this coming Sunday.

Would it be good for us brexiting though? It may not be, she promised a referendum, a mistake in her policies, Baron reckons, it’s very unlikely the French would want to get out, they’ve been the major beneficiary of the EU budget, the CAP has been a bonanza for them, still is, why cut it off, the fear of another referendum though may harden the Brussels apparatchiks’ negotiating stance with us, they may want to warn any other member state from leaving, will treat us as an whipping boy.

Many years ago I shot a hare and cooked it the following day. The result was flesh with the texture of a car tire – and nothing I did could make it any better. I complained about it to an uncle (a farmer with a lifetime’s experience shooting anything edible that ventured onto his land – not to mention a hearty contempt for game laws restricting the time of year when shooting various sorts of game was allowed).

He asked how long I’d left it to hang? When I said “overnight” he rolled on the floor laughing. What else could I expect?

He said I should have left it to hang for several days before preparing it for roasting.

A rabbit walks into a pub and says to the barman “Can I have a pint of beer and a Ham and Cheese Toastie”
The barman is amazed but gives the rabbit a pint of beer and a ham and cheese toastie.
The rabbit drinks the beer and eats the toastie, he then leaves.

The following night the rabbit returns and again asks for a Pint of Beer and a Ham and Cheese Toastie.
The barman, now intrigued by the rabbit and the extra drinkers in the pub (because word gets round) gives the rabbit the pint and the toastie.
The rabbit consumes them and leaves.

The next night, the pub is packed, in walks the rabbit and says “A pint of beer and a Ham and Cheese Toastie, please barman”
The crowd is hushed as the barman gives the rabbit his pint and toastie and then burst into applause as the rabbit wolfs them down then walks out.

The next night there is standing room only in the pub, coaches have been laid on for the crowds of patrons attending, the barman is making more money in one week than he did all last year.
In walks the rabbit and says, “A Pint of Beer and a Ham and Cheese Toastie, please barman”, smiling and accepting the tributes of the masses.

The barman says, “I’m sorry rabbit, old mate, old mucker but we are right out of them Ham and Cheese Toasties”
The rabbit looks aghast, the crowd has quietened to almost a whisper, when the barman clears his throat nervously and says, “We do have a very nice Cheese and Onion Toastie”

The rabbit looks him in the eye and says, “Are you sure I will like it”?
The masses bated breath is ear shatteringly silent.
The barman, with a roguish smile says, “Do you think that I would let down one of my best friends, I know you’ll love it”

“Ok” says the rabbit,” I’ll have a Pint of Beer and a Cheese and Onion Toastie”

The pub erupts with glee as the rabbit quaffs the beer and guzzles the toastie, he then waves to the crowd and leaves.
    NEVER TO RETURN!!!!!!

One year later in the now impoverished public house, the barman (who has only served 4 drinks tonight, 3 of which were his) calls time.
When he is cleaning down the now empty bar, he sees a small white form, floating above the bar.

The barman says, “Who are you”

To which he is answered, “I am the ghost of the rabbit that used to frequent your public house”
The barman says,”I remember you, you made me famous, you would come in every night and have a Pint of Beer and a Ham and Cheese Toastie, masses came to see you and this place was famous”

The rabbit says, “Yes I know”
The barman said, “I remember, on your last night we didn’t have any Ham and Cheese Toasties, you had a Cheese and Onion one instead”
The rabbit said “Yes, you promised me that I would love it”
The barman said “You never came back, after that fateful night, what happened”

    “I DIED”, said the Rabbit.
“Blimey ” said the barman,”what from”.

The rabbit said… “Mixing me toasties….”

Wot the Fox is going on!?

    http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2017/04/what_was_up_with_tucker_carlsons_first_oreillyslot_interview.html

Agree entirely with Tyler’s take on this. In one fell swoop they have destroyed Fox’s role as – warts ‘n’ all – the only channel of news throughout the Western TV media to kick against the pricks of relentless agitprop; O’Reilly led the charge. The second generation of Muckdoch’s have obviously switched sides. Tucker Carlson was okay as a stroppy, facetious interviewer of leftist useful eejits, but a bit shrill and silly at times. He lacks the gravitas and authority clearly inherent in O’Reilly, who is irreplaceable.

The manner in which the lesser players in Fox’s team have jostled their way up the ladder to try to benefit from Bill’s shafting has been disgusting and the lack of due tribute to the debt that they all owe the O’Reilly persona at Fox is egregious. The anaemic Dana Perino’s hypocricy-laden, prepared statement to mark O’Reilly’s departure and Greg Gutfield’s fading one-liner to close the final Factor were a cop-out and clearly delivered under orders from the wimpish wankers who couldn’t see off the vociferous vaginas who ganged up on O’Reilly. Sad to see old man Murdoch pussy-whipped by his current squeeze, Mick Jagger’s cast off – Pisspot Hall.

As for the allegations against O’Reilly? WGAS? During my stint with the meeja I saw far more instances of predatory females trying to fuck their way to top positions than t’other way round. Most of the ugly males in positions of power didn’t have to coerce ambitious bimbos to drop their draws: they had a queue of volunteers outside their office doors, knickers in hand – or already knickerless, in anticipation.

O’Reilly had his faults; but was, regardless, head ‘n’ shoulders above the rest. I hope, notwithstanding any severance clauses, that he contrives to set up a competing channel to further the culture war. But at 67 he will probably rest on his record rather than the laurels he should have been awarded and spend the Murdoch shekels with gay abandon (in the old-fashioned sense of that much defiled three-letter-word).

Phuck Phox! Or to put it another way: a pox on Fox and all who sail in the feminista-captured hulk.

About a month ago, one of the Flopsies must have been a cross with a domestic rabbit, the area surrounding his nose and eyes, and the whole of the short tail, the bottom, lower behinds were pure white, everything symmetrical that added to the attraction, Baron could’t force himself to cull the creature, he was cute in a magical way, met his end caught gnawing at a seedling of some rear Japanese peony, Baron wanted to give him a proper burial, for the looks that furnished somuch enjoyment he deserved it, it didn’t come to that, whilst the barbarian was getting the spade, a stoat snatched the kill, ran away with it awkwardly but fast even though its body mass must have been roughly a fifth of that of the rabbit.

Whether the chap O’Reilly was (still is) what you say he was, Frank, the barbarian cannot say, he’s never watched him, as as far as he knows nobody of this parish has ever pointed him out (if someone did, the barbarian’s missed it), if his excellence ranks so high he can join one of the new upcoming channels, Infowars for instance, set up his own channel, he can afford it, make it a subscription viewing, get richer still.

To get a feel for the guy, Baron surfed, found a clip where he talks to Bruce Willis, a man with an IQ roughy the same as that of the transgender endomorph interviewed by Tucker i.e. around room temperature. Nothing special, if anything Bill keeps interrupting unnecessarily, where’s the special in it?

Tucker’s fine, excellent in fact, brainy, courageous, and his take on things happens to coincide with Baron’s (not perhaps yours), but not always, yet he’s always watchable, the show runs fast, the subjects vary. He may not have been the one who plucked for the transgender creature, who knows, it may be that Fox’s editors fielded him hoping to attract viewers, right or wrong, who knows, but Tucker has built up a sizeable audience, too, he’ll do fine.

The question of O’Reilly’s sacking is a different matter, Baron totally agrees with you, it’s despicable a grown up man can lose a job because of sexual advances to a grown up female, that’s PC gone mad, but then the whole world has gone nuts, next time he should be more careful he tries to seduce.

New speeding fines from tomorrow, be careful when you drive (if you’re in the UK), it may set you back £1,000 for a minor offence, up to £2,500 for a big one:

    http://www.express.co.uk/life-style/cars/795209/speeding-fines-new-laws-rules-price-tickets-UK-April-24

The Tories should have kept the promise not to raise income tax, the new speeding fines would have plugged the gap. It’s insane to have the fines so high, higher than the permitted speed doesn’t actually harm anyone, they should have punished severely those who break the speed limit, cause death, lead to death, that would be the commons sense law, punishing millions for doing 34miles per hour in a 30 mile zone without any accident is just a daylight robbery.

It was full light enough to dress myself, and so by water against tide, it being a little coole, to Greenwich; and thence, only that it was somewhat foggy till the sun got to some height, walked with great pleasure to Woolwich, in my way staying several times to listen to the nightingales…..”

30 reasons to hate the French:

    1. Because they’re losers
Rugby matches played by England against France since 1906: 89. We’ve won 47; they’ve won 35. Draws: 7.
    2. Because they’re aggressive
Wars fought against France since 1066: 35. We’ve won 23; they’ve won 11. Mutual defeats: 1 (American War of Independence).
    3. Because of Napoleon
200 French streets, monuments and institutions commemorate the era of Napoleon, the inventor of totalitarian dictatorship.
    4. And because of the Napoleon Complex
While Napoleon was actually 5ft 6.5in tall, his aggression may have stemmed from “strikingly small, infantile and undersized genitals”, as revealed in his autopsy. The organ in question measured 1.25in.

    5. Because they make love more than anyone else
On average, that’s 137 times a year; we only manage 119 times.
    6. Because everyone believes they’re great lovers
But when asked about Napoleon’s love-making, French good-time girl Marguerite Josephine Weimer remarked that the Duke of Wellington was “beaucoup le plus fort”. Today, just 23 per cent of French people are happy with their sex lives compared to 25 per cent of Brits.
    7. Because they love yappy dogs
More than nine per cent of French dog owners have a poodle.
    8. But they won’t clean up after them
French dog owners refuse to pick up the 5,840 tonnes of dog-doo dropped on their streets each year.
    9. Because they’re allergic to customer service
In London eateries, it takes an average 3.4 minutes to get a glass of water once a waiter has been alerted; in Paris it takes 17.9 minutes.
    10. Because they’re rude
The “Paris Syndrome” is a medically recognised type of depression which afflicts foreign visitors, caused by the sustained rudeness of French people to outsiders.
    11. Because they can’t wait
Many French men still prefer the convenience of a trottoir to the public WC.
    12. Because they lack humour
Before the Revolution, the French spoke of l’esprit (wit), or la farce (joke) but the word “humour” had no equivalent. Not until 1932 did the French Academy allow l’humour into the language.
    13. Because we’ve been allowed to believe that French women don’t get fat
Current diet books claim that French women are thin because they eat only fresh produce, and slowly. However, French obesity rates are exploding and one in four French women is on some kind of mood-altering medication. Of course they’re not hungry – they’re stoned.
    14. Because they do things the wrong way
The French take more suppositories than the rest of Europe combined. In 2006, they shoved 235 tonnes of pharmaceuticals up themselves. That’s equivalent to 1,850 Gérard Depardieus (approx.).
    15. That goes for their wildlife, too
In 1998 alone, 25 million geese and ducks were force-fed in battery farms to make foie gras: the €20 hors d’oeuvre.
    16. Because they love Jerry
In 1963, Jerry Lewis’s The Nutty Professor was voted “Best Film” in France. Le Roi du Crazy, as Lewis is known over there, holds the Legion of Honour, traditionally awarded only to victorious French generals: pretty rare.
    17. And they hate Gerry
In 2005, national treasure Gérard Depardieu announced he was leaving France because: “Only the British understand me… They have a great sense of humour. It is the French who are cretins”.
    18. Because they think their cooking is the best in the world
They boasted 26 three-starred restaurants in the 2005 Michelin Guide. However, the guide is a French institution. Could that be why the UK had only three? Coincidence, non?
    19. Because of their incessant wining
Does France still make the best wine? Not if you go by the infamous Paris Wine Tasting of 1976, when an English wine merchant organised a “blind” tasting before a jury of French experts. To their horror, they rated Californian wines as winners in both the red and white wine categories. The French press first denied any tasting had happened, then claimed the results were fixed.
    20. You can’t trust their wine labels either
In one 2002 case, a Burgundian vintner got jailed for rebottling 4,000 hectolitres of Algerian plonk as a much more expensive Bordeaux.
    21. Because they took the cow pat… and turned it into a hat
Well, that’s what the beret is, isn’t it?
    22. Because their legendary “Va Va Voom” is a lie
They only spend an average 19.2 minutes on foreplay. The British take 22.5 minutes.
    23. Because 50 per cent of them don’t even associate sex with pleasure
And 23 per cent say they would be “relieved” not to have sex for several months.
    24. Because they patented the kiss
In fact, there is no actual word for “French Kiss” in French. It is simply embrasser avec la langue (literally, to kiss with the tongue). Colloquially it is referred to as rouler une pelle (to roll the spade). Only in Quebec is it “frencher”.
    25. Because they’re big bullies
The French shoot, poison, trap, crush, stuff and then eat almost anything smaller than themselves. Box-nets are laid down across the Aquitaine countryside to trap skylarks, while Languedoc hunters blast turtledoves out of the sky.
    26. Because the French health service is the best in the world
However, during a 2003 heat wave, the French health services, rated as a “world best” by the WHO, failed to prevent the deaths of 16,300 elderly people.
    27. Because their country doesn’t work
Employers have to pay social security taxes equal to 48 per cent of each employee’s salary, so they take on fewer people, and France’s unemployment rate has hovered around 10 per cent for a decade.
    28. Because they get up our noses
Forty per cent of French men, and 25 per cent of women, do not change their underwear daily – and only 47 per cent bathe every day (compared to 70 per cent of the British).
    29. Because they invented Sadism
France is not only the birthplace of the Marquis de Sade but also of Renault’s flirty series of Ben and Sophie “Eiffel Tower v Blackpool Tower” TV ads. Talk about torture…
    30. Because it’s taken them a thousand years to admit we’re better than them
“The standard of life of the British is higher than that of the French,” said M. le President Nicolas Sarkozy, in his 2006 autobiography.

    These are the next 15:

    1. Germany is a VERY repressive country. there is “free speech”, but it is only a front. You can get in trouble for speaking out about almost anything that the government does.
    2. Not all, but most Germans that I have had the misfortune of meeting, are very cold people. They will avoid friendliness at all costs.
    3. Prices are high, and Germans will charge for everything. I can not call customer service for my internet connection or even my cell phone contract without paying at least a 1 Euro connection fee, and 19 Euro cents per minute.
    4. The weather sucks except for three weeks out of the year. Period…
    5. The autobahn is extremely difficult to navigate without a GPS system.
    6. The autobahn is constantly under repair, and the road crews are so lazy that it will take almost two years to repair a 10K stretch of road.
    7. Germans “know” better than you about any subject. Period…
    8. Germans do not understand the concept of privacy. The stereotypical nosy old woman, is an every day occurrence here.
    9. You have to pay to use the restroom in many public places, and it isn’t cheap. I have even been refused the chance to use the restroom because I was two cents short.
    10. Germans will call the police on you for almost anything.
    11. When they do call the police, the police are allowed to take up to a 40 Euro bribe on the spot. Be prepared to pay off the police for anything. They will even drive you to the ATM to withdraw the money.
    12. There are miles of paperwork to go through to do anything in this country.
    13. Germans are paranoid of violence. Don’t buy any violent movies or video games in this country or you will be sadly disappointed by all of the censorship.
    14. BMW’s aren’t as nice as you would think.
    15. Neither are Mercedes’.

The Marx documentary was also a repeat of the Jan 2016 series – so I assume they were similarly coupled then).

Luckily Hughes called upon upon that egregious little Lancastrian leftist shitbag Paul Mason, now clearly barking bonkers, to justify the ‘genius’ status of the subject, which luckily severely undermined the purport of the programme.

“Mrs. May’s compassion by proxy, at taxpayers’ expense, is typical of the behavior of modern politicians, who need to show their electorates that they are not the heartless or ruthless ambitious nonentities that they might otherwise appear to be, but are ordinary kind people with generous feelings. An uncritically sentimental population is therefore a perfect flock to be fleeced in this way, sheep for the shearing. The prince unwittingly played assistant to the shearer by his tasteless and unnecessary confessions.”

    Priceless, and absolutely spot on!

You may not believe it, Frank, Baron wasn’t aware it was the bottom of the sexy female that has tens of millions of followers, an entertaining yarn totally void of politics, but so apt for our culture.

Still, the analogy may have fitted better if Mr. Boot were to claim that whilst it was just the Saharan girl Saartjie Baartman alone who was enslaved to make money for others in the barbaric past, in our enlightened times it’s the other way round, the hundred million of supposedly free burghers are enslaved by a single bottom that makes the dosh for Kim, no?

Winston was right, the annexation of this small country together with the anschluß was just for starters, important only in that it allowed Adolf to test the resolve of the West.

A point worth making (even though Baron has made it before), the Czechs should have had a go, invade Germany after they, the Czechs, mobilised in May 1938, except for air superiority the Wehrmacht wasn’t ready yet, most of the German forces were readying for attack, not defence (that came after their fortunes turned in Russia), who knows, France (and perhaps Britain) may have come to aid the brave. (Baron’s reading a book by James Poole ‘Hitler and his secret partners that says it was only after Autumn 1938 when the German Armed forced began an accelerating growth in numbers).

The great Winston was the last of the true statesmen Britain has bred, today we have politicians, mostly of third rate, interested in self-enrichment. The barbarian’s told the ghastly Blair wants to re-enter politics, is there no end to the man’s ambition to ruin Britain even more?

    The Banality of Sedition
It’s May Day again and Communism is still alive and well on the streets of Seattle….

    communism_by_rapierwitt2.jpg

[Picure of a pile of skeletal heads – not impossible to link, but beyond my technical ability, given the limitations of our platform].

THESE DAYS its not often that you see a member of the Despairing Classes being seduced by classic Communism on a city street, but it does happen.

Sidewalk Snapshot: It’s a warm Spring evening on Pine Street in Seattle. Lengthening shadows and brightening light brings everything into sharp relief including the random collection of lay-abouts, short-order poets, tattoo artistes, and students a decade between degrees that take up the tables outside the Cafe Laddro on Capitol Hill.
Capitol Hill is one of those neighborhoods in Seattle that compiles a mainstream lifestyle out of alternatives. Even though it is indeed a hill, it has suspended the normal laws of gravity and everything loose in Seattle rolls up to the top of it. That includes, on this evening, me.
I’m stepping out of your “one-every-block” Seattle espresso slop shop with my machiatto when I notice the odd couple at the table just outside the door. That’s not too odd since odd couples, like spiked bright blue hair, are pretty much the norm on Capitol Hill. I notice them at first because the youngest is wearing a Motorhead t-shirt with the mantra “Everything Louder Than Everything Else” on it in that faux German Black gothic font that got old when Auschwitz was in flower, and so had to be made new again back when heavy-metal was a fresh idea.
Glancing over Motorhead’s shoulder I note that the man across from him is giving him an ideological lap-dance complete with a whole raft of tracts, papers and books being brought out and waved about and placed, with a muffled thwang, one after the other on the thin black metal of the table: Trotsky’s “Marxism and Terrorism,” (thwang!); the ever-popular Marx and Engels “Communist Manifesto,” (thwang!); Lenin’s greatest hit “What Is To Be Done?,” (thwang!), Gramsci’s “Prison Notebooks,” (thunk!), Zinn’s “People’s History of the United States,”(clunk!).
One by one, they come out of the worn back pack and pile up on the table. All in all, a larger pile of ideological dung would be hard to imagine, and harder to handle even with meat hooks and thick rubber gloves.
The man making his pile of “roadmaps to a more perfect world” is quite a bit older than Motorhead with a slim, somewhat furtive look to him. There’s the vibe coming off him that you sometimes sense when someone old is trying to pick up somebody far too young for him.
In the intense light of the evening, you can see a faint cloud of dust motes rising from him as he keeps slapping the tracts down. Greying hair in moist ringlets covers his head except for a monk’s tonsure on the back of his skull. He’s got a mustache and a beard that, with a little care, could be brought to a Van Dyke point. He sports small round rimmed glasses in front of thin blue eyes. His eyes, although they never waver from his prey, carry within them a permanent 1,000 yard stare — as if he’s always looking outside of the present moment at something in the distance that never gets nearer. Overall the face reminds one, as these faces so often do, of a watered down Leon Trotsky, the Christ of Communism, crucified with an ice axe but still twitching in his tomb.
Trotsky is resurrect this evening on Capitol Hill though, and I linger at the table next to them writing down a few notes about their conversation. Except it is not exactly a conversation so much as a monologue as my Trotsky keeps, in smiling and soft tones, returning to the subject at hand which is the inevitable collapse of the evil American Empire (“Long past its expiry date…”), and the inevitable rise of world Socialism (“Everyone will have more than enough, but nobody will have it all.”)
Trotsky’s sporting, as all good Trotskys must, a collection of slogan buttons and a sheaf of free tracts and newspapers. The button that is the largest is pinned to his faded plaid flannel shirt and proclaims him to be a member in good standing of the ISO (International Socialist Organization, good Latter-Day Trotskyites all. )
He passes the tracts and newspapers over to his intended, “Free, all free,” and points out the more salient injustices they outline: eternal racism, eternal slavery of women, eternal repression of the working man by capitalists, eternal imperialism by the United States — the whole catastrophe. He underscores that the only escape is through the ever-imminent but forever delayed Rapture of the Left, The Revolution.
After several minutes of his soft chants, Motorhead is nodding like the drinking bird over the glass. He’s looking a bit dazed. I wonder if Trotsky has slipped a roofy into Motorhead’s machiatto and is just waiting for it to kick in.
Trotsky’s tales are the sad sotto voce sagas that underscore all the old nightmares of the Gulag, the Killing Fields, and every other massacre done in the name of the Marxist Utopia. It’s a litany proving, once again, that some lies lodge so deep in man’s hopes they will not die, no matter the murders they require to live.
Today’s fresh lie is that if only Motorhead will attend the “event” tomorrow, Trotsky will be pleased to take him to the exclusive “Cadre” meeting that follows so he can meet the “Comrade of Honor,” one Ahmed Shawki.
In soft tones salted with a quick twinkling smile that comes and goes like the red queen in three-card monte, Trotsky continues his spiel, his seduction. Motorhead is “obviously a man of no little intelligence” — even if his five facial piercings (ears, left eyebrow, lip stud and nose-ring) might make one wonder.
Motorhead “needs to live in a system where social justice is the rule for all, not just the rich.” Given Motorhead’s ripped black jeans, worn black boots and general air of someone not likely to be hired by any business whose work involves meeting the public, this is probably more true than either of them realize. Motorhead nods again to this last proposition, and observes that he yearns for a social order that is more just to his lifestyle than can easily be found outside the subcultural hamlets of Seattle.
Much has been made of Hannah Arendt’s phrase, “The banality of evil,” and I suppose I’m witnessing a small satori of that kind here on the sidewalks of Seattle. But it seems to me to be a more insidious event than that.
After all, there’s nothing evil in speech that argues for ideas that have proven, without exception, to be evil. It is, after all, only speech and the strength of the American system is to protect all forms of speech, especially the idle blather of a coffee house revolutionary. There’s nothing, really nothing, in this overheard conversation that threatens the existence of the United States. The mere fact that it can be had, five years into the First Terrorist War, underscores just how strong this nation adherence to its founding principles remains. Here on Capitol Hill dissent of even the most egregious sort, is not only tolerated but celebrated.
The conversation bothers me at the same time it fascinates me. It strikes me that what I am auditing is not so much “the banality of evil,” but “the banality of sedition;” a banality we see acted out daily on our television screens and on the op-ed pages of our newspapers.
The banality of sedition is now so well established that it is, well, banal and goes forward without a great deal of remark or trouble. In the last few years, the phrase that has arisen to describe this phenomenon is “The Culture of Treason.” I’m not sure who originated the phrase, but its use is proliferating across the Internet for the reason that all such phrases proliferate when the time is ripe; it somehow rings true.
Of late, it iseems that large sections of the better educated and the most privileged among us have decided that the Constitution is, after all, a suicide pact and have determined to preach this death gospel to us all:
“This way to the gas, ladies and gentlemen. Step right up into the van carrying you all away into the perfect freedom of the perfect world. Don’t worry about those canisters of gas dropping in through the top. It’s just to delouse you of your old, traditional ideas of what being an American is all about.
“In just a few painless minutes you’ll all be, as we are now, citizens of the world. And in that world to which we are all going you’ll forget the old dream of America. You’ll forget, at the last, everything that was good about America. You’ll also forget the true and the beautiful. In the end, you’ll forget about God himself.
“All those old dreams and visions will fade into a gray sameness. And then you’ll all be, at the last, perfect citizens of our brave new world. We’ve breathed deeply of this gas before you and find it is the perfect blend of platitudes, freshly roasted, for the killing of your soul. After all, you weren’t using it much. So step right up. First ride’s free.”
The long evening light was fading down into a warm dusk outside the coffee shop on Capitol Hill. Motorhead, in a moment of awakening, said, “Well, I should probably get grocery shopping.”
Having gotten Motorhead’s assent to attend the “event,” Trotsky the Comrade becomes Trotsky the Closer and skins twenty bucks out of Motorhead’s wallet for Gramsci’s “Prison Notebooks” ($14.95 at Amazon). The tracts and, of course, the newspaper are free. Such a deal.
The threadbare backpack is repacked with Trotsky’s portable library. He and Motorhead set off up the hill and, turning the corner, move out of sight.
I fold up the scrap of paper on the back of which I’ve made my notes of their meeting. The front side invites all and sundry to a “Solidarity Gathering” at the 45th Street Overpass: “We Support the Rape Survivor at Duke… and the Countless Others Everywhere. Come and join us in solidarity to bear witness to this terrorism against women.” I make a mental note to, somehow, manage to be elsewhere.
Walking back to the Century Ballroom, I notice a large flyer that announces the “event” that Motorhead has agreed to attend. Ahmed Shawki, editor of the International Socialist Review, will speak, it seems, on “Black Liberation and Socialism.”
Shaki’s image dominates the flyer and looks, for all the world, like a Malcom X returned to life. The look is, of course, a carefully studied one since black socialist saints are hard to come by these days.** The Clenched Fist logo is in the lower left hand corner of the flyer. There are other details but I have a hard time making them out. It is, I discover, hard to read a flyer that is lying in the gutter. Especially when the light has failed.

Btw. In reply to your closing question. No there isn’t. Many ideologues and ‘religious’ nutters have tried similar forms of oppression and brainwashing but none so far have been so successful in manufacturing misery for mankind. The fact that successive goverments of the Judeo-Christian civilisation in the West have allowed the purveyors of this filth to use its halls of academe to facilitate it, is the major criminal conspiracy of all human history. Which is why I despise ALL politicians of any stripe, but particularly those who overtly espouse socialism in any form whatsoever.

But even Gramsci could not have forseen the emergence of this pervasive agent for recruitment and propagation of The Long March; as the orchestrator of its quickening tempo.

The ‘unacceptable face of capitalism’ has also latched on to its potential, through globalist banking and trade – using it to bleed us dry; so once again ‘we the people’ are at the mercy of both ends of the political spectrum and Marshall McLuhan’s pithy catchphrase still echoes loudly for those of us who augured the ever-increasing pace of TLM back in those days and were punished for our prognostications. The medium is indeed the message.

But the metamorphosis is unprecedented and dire. So much power in the hands of mega-rich techies inculcated by Marxist-Leninist dogma must be monitored, exposed and resisted.

You may not be keeping up with the `Englesgrade Pravda` ( aka:The Guardian-London).
In the last few days the Guardian published an article linking T.Robinson (and, I think , most of us ) to `far right ` racial violence. This has caused much internet traffic as the author of the article is an agent of the Quilliam Foundation which claims to represent the moderate voice of Islam. Her name is Julia Ebner.

The headline and sub-headline to this is thus :
“The far right thrives on global networks. They must be fought on line and off.”
“Nationalists across the world [ ie us here ] are sharing knowledge and reinforcing messages of hate,”

She states : ” The Met. Police even warned that the threat from far-right-groups is as severe as the jihadist threat”. ( We will know what to think of this .)

She has been commentating on the Parliamentary Home Affairs Committee report called : ” Hate Crime Abuse,Hate and Extremism on line ” . She says that Quilliam contributed to this report.

This has got up Tommy Robinson’s nose and next day he turned up at the Quilliam office with a camera crew;as is his wont these days. The video of this will be available on line.

The assault on free speech wherever it is vulnerable has certainly been a feature of our one party-two faced state since Ms. Smith was the Vicar of Bray and has of course continued through the incumbency of the Reverend May to include whatever cipher now holds the office.

“Days after the ban was announced by Home Secretary Jacqui Smith, Boris Johnson, the mayor of London at the time, attacked Smith for her “utterly demented decision.”
“What are we, some sort of kindergarten that needs to be protected against these dangerous American radio shows?” he asked.”

What would be Mr. Johnson’s answer to his own question today, I wonder?

Diane’s grey matter and Labour’s sticky votes
Diane Abbott’s dwindling grey matter and Labour’s surprisingly sticky vote
    Rod Liddle 6 May 2017 9:00 AM
I awoke the other morning to hear Diane Abbott’s brains leaking out of her ears and all over the carpet during an interview with LBC’s excellent Nick Ferrari. You will need a mop and a bucket very sharpish, I thought to myself, as she gabbled on, the hole beneath her feet growing larger with every syllable she uttered. Diane has had the brain leakage problem before, many times, and my worry is that following the LBC debacle there is almost nothing left inside her skull at all, just a thin greyish residue resembling a kind of fungi or leaf mould. This would leave her on an intellectual par with Emily Thornberry, a disaster for Labour. Later Diane explained that she had ‘misspoken’ during the interview — but how were we to know? She seems to misspeak in perpetuity. How are we to distinguish between the meant idiocies and the accidental idiocies?

Later, listening to the news, I learned that the Conservative lead in the polls had been cut quite sharply, with Labour experiencing a genuine priapism. I have mentioned here many times before that Labour’s vote is rather more ‘sticky’, as the pollsters put it, than anybody else expects or indeed the party deserves. They will not be wiped out, glorious though such an eventuality might be. But I had not expected people to actually change their minds in favour of Labour — that thought never really occurred.
I wonder sometimes if the electorate is taking the piss a bit? They hear Diane or some other floundering ESN Labour trog on the radio and think to themselves: how funny would it be if these clowns actually won? At least it would give us a good laugh. That’s a possibility. Or perhaps people have decided to vote Labour because George Monbiot told them to in the Guardian. That could be the answer. I rarely take any important decision in my life without checking first what George thinks about it — I know my social betters and pay heed to their instructions.

Because those two points aside, I can’t see any reason why people would suddenly think to themselves: ‘Well, I’ve mulled it over and looked at the options, and I have to say, Jeremy Corbyn seems the most rational choice for me.’ The polls are, as ever, a mystery.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister had a reportedly difficult dinner date with the man who really delivered Brexit; not Nigel Farage, but the president of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker. Every time this puffed-up and half-cut Luxembourgish boll weevil opened his fat mouth last summer, the Leave vote will have risen by a few hundred thousand. I genuinely believe that if, by some miracle of chance, he had ceased to exist last May, Remain might well have won.

Anyway, one knew that the meeting between the two was not going to go well by the kiss executed on the doorstep of No. 10. It was that air-kiss thing that takes place exclusively between people who genuinely hate each other. I used to do it with my ex-wife’s sister, Alison. The important thing is to avoid coming into contact with the other party so as to avoid being a little bit sick in your mouth. OK, I had not expected Theresa and Jean-Claude actually to snog with tongues — although given that it was after lunchtime, anything is possible with Juncker. But there was a froideur from the start.

Later Juncker, or his people, leaked the details of the meeting; in particular the fact that the Commission president believed Theresa May was living in a different galaxy to the one he inhabits. Yes, J-C, she inhabits this one, over here, not yours: i.e., Cosmos Redshift7 in the constellation Sextans, almost 13 billion light years from Earth. It was also reported that Juncker left the meeting thinking the Prime Minister ‘deluded’ and that he was ‘ten times more sceptical’ about Brexit than he had been before.

The main point of contention was the government’s refusal to stump up the £51 billion divorce bill before trade negotiations might start. The commission insisted that the EU was not a ‘golf club’ where one might leave without paying the next 20 years’ worth of membership charges. No indeed. It is more like signing up to one of those fraudulent car deals where you pay and pay and pay and don’t even own the car in the end, but have to pay out a vast sum just to cancel the contract.

None of this will hurt Theresa May and the Conservatives: battles with Brussels never do hurt the UK, until we give in. But Juncker’s petulance and arrogance will diminish even further his standing and influence within the remaining 27 countries of the EU, the vast majority of which desire strong trade links with a country which wishes to buy their products, and are not motivated by spite, pique and a desperation — an overriding, self-interested but also ideo-logical obsession — to hold the entire EU caboodle together.

There is a widening gap between the elected leaders of each European country and the appointed EU and EC panjandrums; the people from places like Luxembourg — kind of like Rutland with postage stamps. Even Juncker must appreciate the shift. Only two weeks ago it was entirely possible that the French presidential election final would be contested between two people who wished France effectively to leave the EU. That would have been the end of it.

Even now, that election might still presage the end, and there are more difficult elections to come elsewhere. The EU is teetering on the brink of either extinction or — the reason I voted Leave, in the hope that this might happen — a comprehensive reformation. Labour may have climbed a few points in the polls over here, but Theresa May’s position is still far more secure than Juncker’s.

Here’s the other New Specstatesman article worth reading,
Is Marine Le Pen really far-right?
By smearing all opponents as fascists, the left blurs the line between democracy and thuggery
    Douglas Murray. 6 May 2017 9:00 AM
What is ‘far-right’? With the progress of Marine Le Pen to France’s presidential run-off, the term has been liberally used — as it has been over recent years across the West. Golden Dawn in Greece, Jobbik in Hungary, and the Sweden Democrats are all said to be far-right, to name but three.

The fact that the first two of those groups engage in intimidation, racism and overt displays of political violence would ordinarily distinguish them from a peaceful democratic party opposed to mass immigration like the Sweden Democrats. Yet everywhere there is the same name creep. The website Breitbart is frequently called far-right, as is the administration of Donald Trump. So too is Richard Spencer, a self-proclaimed white supremacist who last year whipped up a crowd of supporters doing Hitler salutes. Is nobody interested in the differences?

There was a time when the term acted as a useful cordon sanitaire, marking off actual fascists and neo-Nazis from the legitimate political ‘right’. But across Europe sections of the far-right, like the far-left, became more moderate. At the same time, the short-term political advantages of designating all opponents ‘far-right’ proved irresistible for some partisan campaigners.

Today there are groups that campaign against Ukip as ‘far-right’, leading one to wonder what political language they would use if the jackboots came, all their imprecations having been expended on corduroyed ’Kippers? Such overuse of the term has eroded the boundaries it created, making many people suspicious of all such designations. Many people — especially young people — are less suspicious of the National Front than they perhaps ought to be because they have seen people who do not deserve the label ‘far-right’ being branded in precisely such a way.

Over recent years, while travelling across Europe to research my book on the migration crisis, The Strange Death of Europe: Immigration, Identity and Islam, I have come across a number of the parties generally termed ‘far-right’. Some clearly demand the label (if it means, essentially, ‘fascist’). Others — among whom I would include the Sweden Democrats — it seems to me are being smeared by the term. They have a past on the political extremes, as many parties on our continent do, but if we allow movement on the political left, surely we must allow it on the political right? Perhaps we are resistant because, as Cavafy said of the barbarians, we seem to need them. They are a force against which we can orient ourselves in an era when few other things in politics seem certain.

Yet our arguments and definitions are stale at precisely the time when they need to be at their most limber. Consider the trouble Marie Harf (a spokeswoman for the State Department during the Obama administration) had in a recent TV interview when she called Le Pen ‘far-right’ and was asked what this meant. ‘To me it means her policies on immigration, her policies on secularism in France, which has long been sort of a French tradition. Today she [Le Pen] said: “Let’s close all the Islamist mosques.” That’s a pretty far-right position to take even in the wake of a terrorist attack. She has at times called for a complete shutdown of immigration. Combine that with her flirting with getting out of the EU, with getting out of Nato.’

It may seem unfair to single out such witterings. At least Ms Harf had a go at answering the question. Of course, far from being far-right, Le Pen’s views on secularism are broadly within the views of the French and American republics. And if it is far-right to ‘flirt’ with the idea of getting out of the EU, what are we to call the British public, who didn’t merely flirt with the idea of leaving the EU, but actually voted for it by a majority? As for it being far-right to ‘flirt’ with getting out of Nato, then we must describe President de Gaulle — who pulled his country out of the alliance in 1966 — and four decades’ worth of his successors (including President Mitterrand) — as far-right.

In an unusually fair and balanced piece on its website entitled ‘What makes Marine Le Pen far-right?’, even the BBC struggled to answer the question it had set itself. With his infamous anti-Semitism and Holocaust minimising, nobody would doubt that Marine’s father Jean-Marie could be called ‘far-right’. But are we to take his daughter’s abjuring of her father as counting for nothing? When she herself said that the French nation should not be held accountable for the actions of Vichy, her critics immediately pounced: she is her father’s daughter!

But what she said (playing to an ugly part of her base though it may well have been) was also a statement that the British government of the day (which recognised only the Free French) would have agreed with. Certainly there is some distance between this and Holocaust denial, which exists in her party, certainly, but would not appear to be Marine’s bag.

Perhaps what people really mean by far-right today relates to the Islam and immigration business. Yet what has Marine Le Pen said on this that Europe’s political mainstream has not?

On the campaign trail last year, former president Nicolas Sarkozy promised to lead a ‘merciless war’ against Islamic extremism, adding: ‘In France the only community that matters is the French community. If you want to become French, you speak French, you live like the French.’ Is Sarkozy ‘far-right’? Or Mark Rutte? Before the recent Dutch elections the Liberal (VVD) party’s prime minister told immigrants: ‘Act normal, or go away.’ And: ‘If you live in a country where you get so annoyed with how we deal with each other, you have a choice. Get out. You don’t have to be here.’

As for shutting down extremist mosques: last summer — after Father Jacques Hamel was slaughtered in the sanctuary of his church near Rouen — the left-wing Manuel Valls (who was then prime minister) boasted that he would shut down extremist mosques in an effort to wipe out the ‘poison’ of Islamic extremism. In August, interior minister (later prime minister) Bernard Cazeneuve boasted of having shut 20 extremist mosques in that year alone. Cazeneuve represents the French Socialist party.

In the run-up to Sunday’s vote, much has been made of the fact that Le Pen and her niece Marion are against gay marriage. But if that were far-right it would make every UK government until four years ago — and every government in the world before the present century — beyond the political pale.

Of course, to the residents of each country there are parties which have echoes that an outsider cannot always hear. Some of what understandably worries the French comes, like anti-Semitism, on the edge of a remark. But in each country on the continent I have travelled around, over-liberal usage of the appellation is grinding down the political gearbox. Not just because it is so often used to advance a particular cause (such as eliding the difference between openly racist parties and those which expel racist supporters), but also because once a ‘far-right’ tag is in the air, the brakes come off all political argument.

In February, Chatham House released a poll which asked 10,000 Europeans whether they agreed or not with the statement ‘All further migration from mainly Muslim countries should be stopped’. The majority of the public in eight out of the ten countries surveyed (including France and Germany) agreed with its premise. In only two countries was this a minority opinion. In one of them — the UK — only 47 per cent of the public agreed that all further Muslim immigration should be stopped.

Of course, the habit of the political left and mainstream right continues to be to call all such opinion ‘far-right’, even when it encompasses the majority of the public. However, doing so ignores political shifts occurring due to events rather than incipient fascism, and scares away mainstream politicians from addressing — rather than merely bloviating around — societal problem voters are asking them to tackle.

For now, it is largely agreed that Marine Le Pen is ‘far-right’ because her father is Jean-Marie Le Pen; that his is the tradition she comes from; that her party’s roots remain ugly and that she is pretending to be more moderate than she is to get into political office. It will help keep her from the presidency this time.

But Europe’s cordon sanitaire is straining and at some point may well break. Anyone who actually wants to contain the effluence should learn how to police the boundaries rather better — not to mention more accurately.

    Delving pole at his best

“But Radio 4 is neither of those things. It’s a branch of Britain’s state broadcasting arm the BBC — an organization funded by a compulsory subscription fee which all users are obliged to pay on pain of imprisonment. While it’s true that you don’t need a TV licence to listen to the radio, it’s also true that Radio 4 is a long-established beneficiary of the BBC’s quasi-monopolistic domination of Britain’s airwaves. It has virtually no competition in the field of spoken-word features on the radio, firstly because it has dominated the medium for so long and secondly because, it being so massively subsidised (hence the lack of irritating adverts!) it would be virtually suicidal for any commercial venture to try to compete with it. In return for this extremely privileged position—which ought, by rights, to have long since been withdrawn by anti-monopoly regulators — it is obliged under the terms of the BBC’s Charter to produce output which is rigorously fair and balanced.

This is why we should get cross: not because nasty, horrid, untrue things were said about Breitbart, but because nasty, horrid, untrue things were said about Breitbart by an organization wearing the mantle of authority and the mask of objectivity.”

They do come in threes,in every walk of life, politics isn’t an exception, it was the ghastly Blair who hit the stage, relatively unknown, a happy state of affairs that would have continued if Smith carried on breathing, he didn’t, the three stooges – Blair, Brown and Mandy – took over, groomed the ghastly Blair who was all hot air, no substance, kept winning because he engineered cheap money, it was a case of intended bribery of the unwashed, pure, unadulterated extortion of people’s trust, it all went belly up, the electorate turned away from Labour, isn’t coming back, hopefully never will what with the cumryd doing a great job of demolition of once a respectable movement for those whose assets were just their muscles.

The ghastly Blair was followed by another near unknown, the honorary Muslim, a truly meteoric rise to power on hope and change, if it were not for the Donald the American unwashed would still be hoping for a change.

So now, to round up the three, comes the French mutation of the political hollowing, another youngster who’s good at talking, but will deliver another chunk of FA, the French should have learnt a lesson, most likely they didn’t because they don’t speak English, will have five years of muddling through unless Mutti takes real charge, something that is more than probable.

As our site guru says, we are truly fugged.

You would think that Dimbleby pere had won the war single-handedly. No mention of the complete failure of the BBC to augur the evil of Stalin’s reign and the exponential increase of its baleful and baneful aftermath across the world, aided and abetted in myriad ways by Britain’s national broadcaster and the queer traitors on its payroll. Just come across this report from Greenspan

“There’s one thing that bothers me considerably, which nobody makes any mention of. There is in the European Central Bank a mechanism as it exists of necessity where the European Central Bank is made up of the central banks of the European, euro area and there’s a thing called TARGET2, do you know what TARGET2 is?

TARGET2 at this particular stage is turning out to be an extraordinary large transfer from Bundesbank to essentially Italy and Spain, and most recently the European central bank. That means the Bundesbank is lending money to the European central bank and the question is – it’s big numbers. We’re talking 7, 800 billion euro.

This can’t go on indefinitely because at some point somebody’s going to have the courage to move Greece out. Greece is in the ECB by accident. They came in under false pretenses and the government, immediately following the government that got Greece fraudulently into the ECB, said the numbers were all wrong and if they were actually the numbers used they would not have been in, but nonetheless they let them stay. That was a terrible mistake. The Greek personal savings rate right now is -20%. You cannot run an economy at -20% savings rate.

Something is going to happen there. My view is it’s either going to be Greece – it conceivably could be Italy. The funny part of it is that the second largest contributor to the net flow in lending to Spain and Italy is Luxembourg. They’ve got some steel and they’ve got a few other things and they’ve got some banks, but it is extraordinary what is going on in this system while the total assets of [the] European Central Bank continue to go straight up. What would happen if there was a default of the euro?

In the United States, if there were a default on the dollar the US treasury could always [step in]. For example, if the federal reserve went into default the US treasury would bail it out but what do [European banks do?] There is no comparable vehicle to help the system”

His hatred of the KGB Colonel clouds his mind even on the French result, Frank, even if Le Pen were to dance to Putin’s hymn sheet (not that the barbarian buys it), she would be by far better equipped to ensure the survival of the French culture, and this, nothing else, trumps it all, the Putins of this world come and go, statists, Left leaning, protectionist policies could be reversed, improved upon, abandon, but once a culture turns, it’s no coming back, it’s curtains, it’s the end.

It feels it’s the beginning of that end with the Micron man.

Btw, the barbarian ain’t certain it was a statutory rape of a boy of 15 unless a motherly touch, embrace or a cuddle qualifies as rape, the guy may be into relationships platonic rather than physical.

  259. Baron says:

Le Pen’s key mistakes in the campaign were two, she kept rabbiting about the nightmare of the EU, offering a referendum on membership, a possible Frexit rather than focusing on the survival of the French culture i.e. easing off, curtailing, controlling immigration from lands whose culture is polar opposite to that of France. That was not a smart move, the French are still a major beneficiary of the EU budget, it’s unlikely they would consider leaving the bureaucracy, mould it, perhaps, but abandoning the cash cow?

She also failed to change the name of the party, this may seem trivial, what’s in the name, one may ask, ‘alot in politics’ should be the answer, the image of her farther lingers all over it, her attempts to resurrect Petain is linked to it, too, she may have a point, the barbarian knows little about the circumstances of war torn France, however, tactically, it was not only a gift to her opponents, it may have kept some from voting for her if only because they still bear guilt for the France’s submission to the Nazis, of which Petain was and is the symbol.

An excellent link, Marshal, the man who penned it hits at the core of the societal conflict Europe (the whole of the Western world really with few exceptions e.g. Japan) is faced with.

The Micron guy is a pure embodiment of Susan Sontag’s ‘the white race is the cancer of human history’, the embracing of this fallacy since WW2, its later natural derivatives e.g. PC, the rainbow society or whatever, has created the impasse we’re going through, it’s far from over, a solution will have to be found, it will very likely involve pain for many.

Le Pen managed to double the popular share of the vote her farther got when he stood against Chirac in 2002, it may not take that long for that share to get boosted further because the Micron guy – if he does what he says he’ll do – cannot solve what underpins the unhappiness cum anger of the vast majority of the French, that of a well established, admired and enjoyed way of life being slowly but irrevocably invaded by a pre-medieval cult that threatens it.

The unwillingness to hug, enjoy even adopt an imported way of life incongruous to what has been evolving over centuries here must must have also been the reason for many to vote for Brexit.
