I don’t know anything about Facebook or what its purpose is. But it sounds absolutely idiotic. Why would anyone want to open up their lives to a bunch of strangers, never mind the fact that people can use profiles maliciously?

As you say Verity, you know nothing about Facebook. So why comment? It is one of the most useful and necessary means of reaching people at present. A person doesn’t need to post anything that a person does not wish to share, and there are all manner of levels of privacy. But for an organisation trying to reach people it is indispensable.

PfromM – Thank you for taking the time to respond.

You write, ” But for an organisation trying to reach people it is indispensable..”

It may well be. But I am not an organisation trying to reach people. I am just someone who enjoys batting around opinions among friends.

Then don’t join Facebook. I find it a very useful way of keeping in touch with many contacts. And it is indispendable for organisations and those wishing to support organisations.
