This is the Coffee House Wall for this week. I won’t say that it is your chance to communicate with us, as we are all in this together. It is, nevertheless, the Conservative Blog post that has no particular theme, and where everything is on topic. Let’s just remember that we want to avoid ad hominem attacks on others. We don’t want to engage with trolls. We want to moderate our language ourselves as responsible and mature adults, choosing to use fruity language only where it is necessary. This is our opportunity to show what the Spectator Coffee House Wall could have been like.

We had a splendid day yesterday, our youngest daughter Sarah Louise Erica was married at the Register Offices in Harrogate.
David, some good news in the world then. God bless them and you all.
Regarding the Sydney hostage situation, I see that some group in Australia is trying to promote an idea of travelling with Muslims on the Metro to protect them from white Australian hate.
We know already from the UK experience that Muslim groups will use the idea of mass white anti-Muslim hatred to suggest that they are a peaceful community under siege. But we also know that they will record “He looked at me in a funny way” as evidence of hate-crime. In fact the real threat remains directed at the white British, really white English, population.
If there are 2,000 “British” Muslims fighting in the Middle East, and hundreds have already returned, fully trained, then there are reasonably another couple of thousand preparing to go and kill in the name of Islam, and ten thousand who would like to, but don’t have the nerve but might do something here, and how many tens of thousands, even hundreds of thousands, who know of people planning violence and will say or do nothing to stop them.
This is the real threat. I wish no particular Muslim ill in this country. I don’t. But unfortunately it is impossible to escape the fact that thousands of Muslims in the UK wish us death and destruction.
My daughter and her friend were out with their very young children a couple of days ago. They were in a local town, not Maidstone When they were putting the children in the car after shopping, and while they were folding up the prams, some “Asian” men started shouting sexual abuse at them. Well, not Asians, Pakistanis and Muslims. My daughter is quite able to stand up for herself, but these were just two young mothers with their children, in a provincial English town, subjected to sexual verbal abuse from Pakistani Muslim men. In the same town a year ago she had stopped going in to Subway because the staff there had propositioned her, thinking that as a young white British girl she was unworthy of respect.
I’m deactivating some plugins running on the site, all in the background so you will not see any difference, to try and determine if one of them is causing the 503 errors. I’d appreciate it if people shared their experiences using the site today as I try to make your commenting experience more satisfying.
Four armed men are holding hostages in Ghent, Belgium today. Not clear yet what their origins are, but I’ll guess. And it will be nothing to do with Islam.

I agree with Peter of Maidstone and EC. The point is that the West have never accepted that islamic ethnicity allows lying to protect its agenda. They do not have the moral code of the Judeo-Christian civilisations, and have no place in Western countries. They should be shot on sight as the mad dogs that they are!
John Humphrys: Sheltered, liberal BBC staff did not interrogate immigration for fear of appearing ‘racist’
The BBC has been staffed with too many ‘Oxbridge liberal males’ making it ‘relentlessly middle class’ and unwilling to confront immigration, the broadcaster John Humphrys says
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/11293405/John-Humphrys-Sheltered-liberal-BBC-staff-did-not-interrogate-immigration-for-fear-of-appearing-racist.html
Let us break this down: The BBC has been staffed with too many
‘Oxbridge – possibly, though why ignore PPE’s or a lack of ‘STEM graduates’
liberal – true
males’ – what, with so many wimin about!
Let us look at the Newsnight presenters:
Jeremy Paxman – Cambridge and male (but not liberal, but the backroom boys are!)
Emily Maitlis – Cambridge and liberal establishment
Kirsty Wark – liberal establishment
Laura Kuenssberg – liberal establishment
Evan Davis – Oxford, male and liberal establishment
or
This Week
Andrew Neil – non-liberal sleeper!
Michael Portillo – Oxford, male and liberal establishment
Diane Abbott – Cambridge and liberal establishment
Alan Johnson – male and in liberal establishment by accident! And not Middle Class!
or
Today
John Humphrys – male and either liberal establishment or sympathiser
James Naughtie – male and liberal establishment
Sarah Montague – liberal establishment
Justin Webb – male and liberal establishment
Mishal Husain – Cambridge and liberal establishment
Edward Stourton – Cambridge, male and liberal establishment
Carolyn Quinn – liberal establishment
Evan Davis – Oxford, male and liberal establishment (repeat)
or
Question Time, where loads of liberal, wimin are on the panel, like Shami Chakrabarti, for instance. And then there is the audience – the mobile liberal establishment that can shout down any ‘wacists!
Then there is Humphrys’ conclusion:
“making it ‘relentlessly middle class’ and unwilling to confront immigration”
Remember, all we are looking for are a few forceful folk who are not Oxbridge and male to demolish Humphrys’ full hypothesis. It appears his only correct criterion is ‘liberal’. What a surprise! 🙂
And it isn’t middle class that is the problem, as so many middle class are in business or self employed and are aware of the problems confronting Britain. It is the highly educated, highly paid (on a high salary, pension + perks unaffected by market forces, because they have liberal views and a yearning for State given status and protection), not wealth creation, mostly in State, political or QUANGO employment.
There is always the possibility that it is the BBC itself that is the problem, as ‘sheltered, liberal BBC staff’ appears to cover the it to a tee!
PfM – site is still slow accepting comments.
RobertC – 14:00
“There is always the possibility that it is the BBC itself that is the problem, as ‘sheltered, liberal BBC staff’ appears to cover the it to a tee!”
I would add ‘… who think they are Middle Class and represent the rest of Britain’.
Thanks Robert, I’ll turn a few other things off and see if that helps.

WTF was that nutter doing free with his form?Thought the CJ system there had a bit more nous?. Does that mean there is nowhere left with a functioning system to deal with this scum? You were the one source of hope on this patch. No more, mate.
I’ve turned off a lot more plugins. Including the spam filter, so I have to handle that manually. So do please let me know if you see a 503 error.

We hope Mr. Muzzie might be one on the incumbents brought out on a stretcher and that he’s suffering nothing worse that a severe case of rigor mortis!
No evidence this is anything to do with Islam – according to Sky, just a domestic. Move on, no cause for alarm!

What a delightful post from RPM about the abomination that is ‘Woman’s Hour’.
http://www.revpetermullen.com/
‘So Daphne, how devastated *were* you when your house burnt down?’
‘Oooh, about 75% devastated, Jenni. Tee hee hee hee!’ (wets pants)
The entire Woman’s Hour ‘Unit’ belongs on the ducking stool. The entire Woman’s Hour audience belongs on the ducking stool. Anyone who has ever seen a member of the Woman’s Hour audience getting on a bus belongs on the ducking stool.
As for Jenni Murri, she should be spray painted blue and turned loose to run around on the motorway until she gets flattened by an Eddie Stobart juggernaut.
Seems to Peter, we’ll see this time.
Condolences to the hostage who perished: may the hostage taker have suffered terribly in extremis, and I’ll suspend my agnostic inclinations if you can promise that the bastard will rot in eternal, agonizing fire. And may the evil cult that spawned him suffer a similar fate.
A d perhaps some at the Murdoch milieu will tell Mr Joshi to wise up!! Dichead!!

Andy, I once enjoyed “Woman’s Hour” when it was for women and not lesbian/marxist/trans-gender slags. It is now a dreadful programme filled with castrated Russell Brands. The capon Jenni is a fat slob who if she was run over would fill the motorway with grease. Alas, “The Archers” has gone the same way. It was indeed a story of country folk, but now? Helen, a real nutter has a revolting test tube baby and lives with Rob, a vile married man. Emma, a real slapper leave her husband Will, and lives with his brother Ed. She has now proposed marriage to him and the Grundy clan are over the moon with joy. Tony got gored by a bull and is very ill. Wonder if he tried to assault it, or did the bull penetrate him? Hmmmm…. Well with a wife and family like he has, even a mad bull would appear better! I’ve given up being a regular listener after many decades, and now just switch on hoping things will go back to what they once were. Happy days!
AWK, While waiting for a connecting train recently, I made a note of various tempting headlines on the cover of ‘Take A Break’ magazine, a magazine evidently for the slapper market. For now I have mislaid the note, but the one that stood out was,
‘I’m having a baby by my hubbie’s new man.’
The rest were similar and sound like they drew on the common pool of folktales as the Archers. I am glad that despite being female you share my review of Jenni Murri. Truly, she is a swamp creature. Reminds me of that old music hall joke,
‘Oh I say, my wife, you know, now I’m not saying she’s fat, hoho, but every time I go down on ‘er, I scorch me arse on the light bulb.’ Boom boom!

Sydney muslim gun man well known to police;sent abusive letters to families of dead soldiers;accused of 47 items of sexual assault, and murder of his wife:many media sites including at Sky (with lengthy `comment`below it.)
http://news.sky.com/story/1392286/sydney-hostage-taker-accused-of-47-sex-attacks
According to Fox News reports, the killing of two hostages by a Muslim terrorist in the seige of Sydney, before he was despatched to his 72 virgins, has not caused a backlash against Islam; au contraire, a new group of activists calling themselves “We’ll ride with you” are volunteering to ride with Muslims in their cars to make sure they are not attacked by irate infidels.
A touch of taqiyya, or ‘turn the other cheek’? Whatever – is there no limit to the gullibility and potential Dhimmitude of our dying civilization.
Sky still bending backwards to minimize the responsibility of the evil cult of Islam in this latest episode.

Deingpole addresses `hashtag Ill ride with you`at Breitbart.Right from the start (Mid-night GMT>) the Australian media were quoting a Melbourne professor to the effect that there would be a revenge driven back-lash with attacks against muslims `as there was in Britain after the killing of Lee Rigby`.
It occurs to me those Western liberal journalists and aid-workers who were beheaded by the Islamic S.S. had taken the position “I’ll ride with you”when they crossed the border.

Usual media spin – “not typical of Muslims, lone wolf etc etc bs bs”, Government desperately trying to keep the lid on things. But, and its a big but, two points. In the first instance, there are far fewer Muslims here as a % of population and they are only really ‘visible’ (ie bags on their heads, wearing pyjamas etc) in Sydney. The unrest is in the second generation, who have looked at Europe and aped it. Second, your average Aussie is still an unreconstructed racist. They won’t stand for this crap. The reaction of locals in Cronulla was a wake-up call and put Muslims firmly in their place. Last week, a muslim demo was broken up by Police in a way UK Police haven’t the guts or skill to apply. There are far more effective backlashes against Halal here than in the UK.
There will be the usual platitudes and it will appear things will move back towards the PC normality, but I suspect the level of pushback against Islam will steadily increase.
Aussies value life itself far more than any other nation I’ve visited. Every loss of life in a car accident is anguished over, desperate attempts are made to rescue drug smugglers facing the death penalty. The loss of life of hostages will create outrage here as it would nowhere else on the planet.
All Muslims, rightly or wrongly, will carry the blame for these deaths in the eyes of the Aussie population.
Headline BBC News at Ten: “Lesbian tennis players are terrified of coming out”.
Could have fooled me; short of doing a soixant neuf jobbie between sets at Wimbledon, I would have thought they had already just about ‘come out’.

How is it that someone who is five stone overweight is too thick to understand that getting back to a healthy weight should be the absolute top of her ‘to do’ list…as it should have been when she was four, three, or even two stone over. Instead of which she spreads her massive *rse over an especially large chair, taps her microphone and then has the gall to lecture the world about ‘wimmin’s issues’…when she herself is clearly part of the problem, not the solution. Her target audience has already sorted itself out, organised its life and is getting on with it, thank you very much. And with this mental myopia that enables her to ignore the paradox, she expects us to respect her opinion!
And then she expects her ‘weight issues’ to be sorted out by an already overstretched NHS when a timely intervention of her own would have, years ago, obviated the problem.

Douglas Murray’s latest needs to be noted (What’s in a name):
http://www.gatestoneinstitute.org
I left this comment on the site, which has been delayed ‘for moderation’, so it will probably not see the light of day:
It went something like this:
Subject: The word that you are looking for, Douglas, is ‘Islam’.
… or as St Mark of Steyn has perpetually described, it over the past decade or so, ‘demographics’. We know you are familiar with his work, which has been subject to unwarranted litigation by those of the Gramscian persuasion, but he needs robust support from the sane sector of the right spectrum of journalism, such as yourself, rather than the somewhat pusillanimous innuendo contained in weasel words contained in this piece.
And while you’re down there, why has Diana West been dumped from this platform, for so assiduously analyzing the infiltration of the West over the past century by subversive communist interests.
Listening to Obama and parents of the children killed in the school attack I find it impossible to stop the thought in my head that says its your own scum religion that’s the cause of it.
Jeb Bush makes his first move: tweeted his intention to ‘explore the possibilty of running for POTUS’. In other words, “Cough up, you high rollers, and let’s see how the wheel spins.”
Mmmmm. A week can be a long time in politics. One hundred or so of ’em is an eternity. How do Wallsters feel about a third bush in the Washington arbour.
And while we’re thinking about Diana West (see 15:13) the latest piece on her blog is worthy of inclusion on this data base (503s notwithstanding):

Cameron – Sydney siege ‘nothing to do with Islam’.
Nigel me old flower. Put out your ciggy, put down your pint, avoid Channel Four pantomime and let’s have a robust comment on where we are in this civilizational war – against a deranged cult, that is waged by noxious nutters intent on destroying the West and all who sail in it, including Cameron and, yes! You too, Mr Farage. Speak up man! Or dare you not, given the ‘demographics’? This platform sees you as our only hope – earn its trust FFS!

Agreed. Another BBC travesty. Be interesting to discover how it was rigged. A number of possibilities could be posited, most of them involving less about grease in the diff. box and more about grease on the palms.
Ostrich
“…And then she expects her ‘weight issues’ to be sorted out by an already overstretched NHS when a timely intervention of her own would have, years ago, obviated the problem.”
Oh I dunno. Ostrich, Perhaps we should she it as an opportunity. Imagine if her local NHS Trust was to offer tickets to the de-blubbering of the great whale beached on the operating table? Sell them for the privilege of wielding the scalpel? Sell the rendings for fat? Some good would have come of it all.
I think that our leaders should recite every morning and each evening, “not all Muslims are terrorists but all terrorists are Muslims” if they do that it might eventually sink in to their thick sculls that all Muslims are our enemy’s.
All western countries, Australia and New Zealand have within their midst a fifth column that will if not stopped in time change the structure of each nation to be at one with Islam.
“Obama Doesn’t Blame Taliban In Statement On School Massacre”
Not once in his speech does Obama blame the Taliban.
Blair and Bush junior have much to be blamed for but we will never see either brought to book.
We are at war with an ideology that is inimical to our own, and wishes to subvert our ancient culture with a hideous counterfeit. If we are not able to recognise, as a society, that we are at war, then we must lose.

We have millions of peace loving Muslims in England, many of whom I am proud to call my friends, and we must find ways to embrace and integrate them, not lambast and isolate them
You won’t hear it put like this on the BBC.
“At least Russia’s economy, levered though it may be, is tied to a physical commodity – and perhaps the physical commodity par excellence: energy. The Western economic paradigm is inextricably tied to larceny: currency debasement and the forcible financial rape of multiple generations of people, many of whom will not even be born for decades or centuries hence.”

Not for me, nor for the other politically impotent truth tellers on this Wall, who have urged those in power to accept the bleedin’ obvious, id est, Islam is, in historical terms, on the march again – at the double and sorry old chap, fuck your friends among the barbaric cult who pretend that Islam means ‘peace’ rather than ‘submission’. My family and their friends had German friends in 1939; tough shit! When the balloon went up, friendships were suspended for the duration. You can choose the side of the barbarians if you wish with your puerile apologies for their taqiyya tactics. But if you don’t like the heat in this kitchen, then find one that suits your particular brand of stoopid! That Barnhardt article is quite concerning: who controls the banks? Is it the Federal Reserve? Can they be trusted?
Given that today the SHTF with the Russian economy, it is a delicious irony that George Friedman posted me his first report from Moscau:
http://www.stratfor.com/weekly/viewing-russia-inside#axzz3M6pCT7fH
I know that Alex Boot is not too impressed with US intelligence analysts and their opinions about The Russian Bear. And some Wallsters have been less than impressed by Alex’s own assertions about the ‘ thuggish kleptocrats’ in the driving seat of the Kremlin’s juggernaut. So I’ve forwarded the Friedman communique to him, hoping that HE will not think it unworthy of comment, as obviously the PTB in the Kremlin have deigned to use George as a conduit for their concerns, or propaganda, from whichever side of the street you stand in the debate.
I’m sure our friend Baron would like to expand his own views in light of Friedman’s report. Actually, whatever George’s brief, and whether it’s his own commercial gig, or part of ‘The Company’ strategy, it seems to me to open a window here and there on what the Kremlin is thinking – or was, before the SHTF. What say you Wallsters? And Alex, too, of course.
So far as I know, there have been few comments on the apparent fact that the recent massacre of children at a school in Pakistan was aimed at the children of the Pakistani elite – but so far as I know, no comments at all on the parallel between that aim and the aim of Norway’s Breivik, who similarly took aim at children of Norway’s politically correct, leftist elite.
I wonder why not? Do not those elites have a great deal in common? Both are pig-headedly determined to act as if (and to persuade others to believe ) that not only the infiltration of civilised countries by hordes of Muslims but also the constant barbarities of ISIS and others have “nothing whatsoever to do with Islam”? That collective stupidity has put all of us in grave danger.
Just as the Pakistani elite are now being targeted by Islamists it seems to me to be not unlikely that western elites will eventually confronted by both jihadists and Breiviks.
The majority of our own elites are so useless that I believe that we may eventually have to face up to this sort of question – against whom do we need to defend ourselves and with whom do we need to ally ourselves? Will the time come when we decide that the Breiviks are not our enemies but in fact our only hope?
I can’t help thinking that if I were asked to name the countries whose elites are the least stupid and politically correct (and have the most common sense which is much the same thing) I would say they are China, Russia and Japan.
Frank P
I am troubled
Troubled by your conviction that Islam is on the March
We are in a very different situation to that with the Germans in 1939
In the 1939 census there were 2,786,635 Muslims in our midst
If you are correct we are stymied
Stymied by our liberal values and stymied by the technology of terror
Muslim states remember have nuclear power and therefore if you are correct our fifth column population could ransom us with a dirty bomb tomorrow
You say we are politically impotent
If you are correct about the march then what is the correct course
To bleat as the media and political blogs do driving more disaffected youths into the hands of the crazy Imams
Or if like me you do not believe all is lost do we embrace and “deradicalise and westernise” this huge population
If you are correct we should lie down and die
We cannot oppose and contain 2,786,635 souls

Regarding the atrocity in Pakistan, as ye sow, so shall ye reap.
Tele, you really are a blind prick. No one in history has embraced and de-radicalised Islam. Beyond view, in terms of consumerism, alcohol and all other western decadences, the men are fully westernised, whilst the women make do with the westernisation they are allowed. However, they take care not to flaunt it because (and I hate to admit it) the polis are broadly right, most Muslims are simple, peaceable folk who just wish to get on with their lives and they don’t want the fundamentalist nutters on their backs.
Sadly, because they have been brainwashed since childhood, they do not have the intellectual tools to fight back against the radicals. They cannot separate fact from fairy-story, science and truth from dogma. Thus, they do not have the wits to argue with fundamentalists and end up dragged into their world.
Which is why I firmly believe that, at the end of the day, we must end u at open war with this medieval desert culture and either wipe every trace of it from the planet or die in the effort.

We would need the equivalent of the Spanish inquisition for 2 1/2 million domestically and more neutron bombs than we have internationally

What do YOU suggest?
Western values must not be allowed to be used to subvert western values. Here’s is what I’d do. And some of these came out of a discussion with a friend yesterday on this very topic.
Britain, and especially England, is a Christian country, built on Christian principles and teachings, however imperfectly, and whether the population as a whole are committed and believing Christians or not. If we lose that then we lose our civilization. An aspect of those values is our tolerance of others, but this does not and must not extend to societal suicide.
i. Clear declaration that Islam is an ideology and not a race, and that it is not racist to oppose and object to a hostile ideology. (Would Churchill be called a Naziphobe nowadays?)
ii. Repatriation of several hundred thousand Muslims. Many have not great claim to be here at all, and such actions, done in a positive manner, and even with a small repatriation allowance, would show that Britain was willing to repatriate people.
iii. A halt on all further Muslim migration for a temporary period of 5 or 10 years, and then a review. No marriages with Muslims allowed as an excuse for immigration. If a Pakistani Muslim wishes to marry a Pakistani Muslim in his village back home he is entirely free to go an live there.
iv. All political and social Islamic activities to be prohibited. No Islamic political agitation. No clubs only for Muslims. Nothing that will allow political nature of Islam to grow. The Muslim Council to be disbanded. The Muslim Parliament to be disbanded. Many Islamic political organisations to be banned.
v. No new mosque planning applications allowed for a temporary period of 5 or 10 years, and then a review. Any mosque allowing any preaching of an Islamic political and social nature to be closed.
vi. Expansion of the already existing Government backed repatriation scheme so that many more Muslims might choose to be repatriated on their own volition.
vii. Serious and national investigation of crimes against young British girls by Muslim gangs, with as much vigour as against aging 70’s DJs, and the imprisonment and then deportation of all Muslim criminals. Those found to have known of such crimes and not reported them to also be deported.
viii. No more Muslim schools, and the registration of Muslim madrassas and teachers, with CRB checks etc and a national helpline for reporting abuse.
ix. Introduction of an immigration points system. A small national quota for immigration, and the levels for each country set by its economic and social compatibility with Britain. We have much in common with Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the US. We have much in common with Western Europe. We have nothing in common with Somalia, and the discrepancy between our economies means that many will want to come and very, very few will integrate helpfully and fruitfully.

Pope Francis refuses to meet the Dalai Lama, a brave and humane man, since it would annoy China. Of late there have been some fine Popes. but alas Francis recalls the sad times when a certain Pope didn’t want to ruffle Herr Hitler’s feathers.
Anne, the Pope does have to take into account the situation of Catholics in China. There is more at stake.

i. Clear declaration that Islam is an ideology and not a race, and that it is not racist to oppose and object to a hostile ideology.
I guess this is like the Christian Mission to the Jews which my School participated in before it was axed as anti-semitic
ii. Repatriation of several hundred thousand Muslims. Many have not great claim to be here at all, and such actions, done in a positive manner, and even with a small repatriation allowance, would show that Britain was willing to repatriate people.
Cannot be done under current laws
You said they are not a race-What do they have to do that would be different from what IS did to Christians in Mosul
iii. A halt on all further Muslim migration for a temporary period of 5 or 10 years, and then a review. No marriages with Muslims allowed as an excuse for immigration. If a Pakistani Muslim wishes to marry a Pakistani Muslim in his village back home he is entirely free to go an live there.
Again how do you identify a Muslim
What about a Pakistani Hindu, Sikh or Christian-there are hundreds of thousands
Now how do you do that without fostering proscription of say the Wee Frees
There are human rights to consider
v. No new mosque planning applications allowed for a temporary period of 5 or 10 years, and then a review. Any mosque allowing any preaching of an Islamic political and social nature to be closed.
And Synagogues?
Or RC Churches (My forbears were Huguenots and would wish this
vi. Expansion of the already existing Government backed repatriation scheme so that many more Muslims might choose to be repatriated on their own volition.
This is possibly acceptable
But who pays
Would the taxpayer bear it
vii. Serious and national investigation of crimes against young British girls by Muslim gangs, with as much vigour as against aging 70’s DJs, and the imprisonment and then deportation of all Muslim criminals. Those found to have known of such crimes and not reported them to also be deported.
This Peter is a Must
But folks can only be deported within existing laws
viii. No more Muslim schools, and the registration of Muslim madrassas and teachers, with CRB checks etc and a national helpline for reporting abuse.
I have long advocated a policy of a maximum of 25% in any one school. This is achievable
ix. Introduction of an immigration points system. A small national quota for immigration, and the levels for each country set by its economic and social compatibility with Britain. I would expect your first point to include de-revering the koran. This would include having an authority that can explain what the koran is about. So many say that it is misquoted, just like the Bible can be, and leave it at that: complete inertia!
Please amplify/correct my comments, but while there are books around that explains the ideology (I have, and mean to start reading ‘Getting Through’), there is a chasm between what people experience, superficial muslims complying with most of Western culture, and the reality on our TV screens where devout make their faith visible, and no connection is made between the two: “They are just terrorists – we have them as well!”
Even some general truths would hopefully jog some people into action. The fact that the koran is an instruction manual to spread sharia, unconditionally, while the Old Testament is ‘The Story of the Children of Israel’, including their laws to survive in harsh conditions (but not to inflict on others), poems, tales of their wars (like we know about The Battle of Hastings), and their failures, personal and tribal, warts and all. And The New Testament is about the Good News, with a lot intended to be understood, like the parables, rather than taken literally, such as not burying your Father!
I think it might even persuade Atheists to think again because, at the moment, they can drift along, carried by our past Christian culture, and contributing nothing to the present or the future.
There is now an opportunity to present the choice that is open to them, a choice that mandatory, even it is made by default.
What does disappoint me is that we have had many studying Comparative Religion in centres renowned for advancing knowledge (and even wisdom), yet I have never heard of anyone explaining these differences. I wonder what happens in lessons on this subject in schools.

Barnhardt’s right saying one should get out of financial assets, park wealth as much as possible in assets tangible (buy with yield attached) such as property, land, woodlands, shares in (mostly) utility companies and such like, the prices of these assets are likely to also collapse, but the underlying body of one’s holdings, the bricks, land, companies output of oil, electricity, bread and whatever will remain, recover in time as people will have to live somewhere, eat, drive cars.
The barbarian has made a move, should own few Gazprom shares soon (in addition to other small holdings), add more later. Risky? Yup, but without risk there isn’t a gain.
The fall of the rouble has been intrinsically linked with the price of oil for the reason he gives, but Baron reckons it’s fuelled also by speculative selling of the Russian currency by new entrants to the market, not the usual financial speculators. That’s the bit that’s hard to judge.

The video clip got interrupted three time when Baron tried to watch it, the last 3 minutes were cut off in full, Baron had to give up.
The guy’s answered the questions like a cat circling a bowl of hot porridge, and for good reasons, the loopy Left may be after him, the less he says the better, he should watch it, we haven’t heard the last word on the CIA involvement.
Not that it matters, but as a matter of principle Baron’s against torture of any sort, but in the way he thinks Burke, his guru, would have been: ‘Principles should only guide, inform us,’ said the great Irishman, ‘not be blindly followed, one has to consider the circumstances.’
It’s common sense, in real life one should never say never, there may be occasions one has to suspend one’s principles for the simple reason that if one didn’t one wouldn’t be alive to have any principles.
At some point in the interview, Mitchell says ‘the pressure from everyone was intense, the gloves were off’. If what they did what with waterboarding, sleep deprivation and stuff is the taking off gloves, we have no chance of winning. Here we face a bunch of r eligious lunatics of a creed followed by over a billion of people, who are not only ready to kill any of us but think not twice in dying themselves in the slaughter. We, on the other hand, have not only reservations about inflicting transient pain on them, but would never ever contemplate dying ourselves voluntarily fighting them. It’s no brainer who will come on top if we persist with this approach.

It has been assumed that the SNP will be adding to their successes in next year’s general election, but a recent slip may be the start of a reversal.
Most parents place their children fairly high up on the ‘importance list’, if not at the top, but the SNP have promoted State Guardians above parents.
In fact:
“The Scottish Nationalists have come under fire this week for putting their new state guardians at the heart of new children’s welfare proposals whilst entirely forgetting to mention keeping parents equally informed.”
The SNP give state guardians – but not parents – a role in school advice
http://www.conservativehome.com/thecolumnists/2014/12/snp-give-state-guardians-but-not-parents-a-role-in-school-advice.html
And from where will these State Guardians be recruited? I expect those in Social Services will have the appropriate skills – and attitudes!
Thankfully, there won’t be any in Rotherham for a while.

But for a few points, Friedman’s right, Frank, but then who’s Baron to disagree with a prominent scholar.
One of the points is this: “The Americans have legitimate interest in Ukraine … because for a century their policy has been to prevent the rising of another hegemonic power elsewhere …. ‘. Really? They seem to be quite happy, often more than keen on hegemonic powers, even powers of lesser stature, if these bow to them, offer no resistance to what they are told they must do.
As a doctrine though, this isn’t sustainable today. When the WW2 ended, the US GDP was two fifth of the world’s. Now, it’s less than a fifth. The economic leverage over others is being dented to the point where even the sacrosanct military budget has to be cut, the chunk of the Republic’s annual income diverted towards consumption is now higher than ever before, investemnt suffers, but it’s the latter that creates future prosperity, furnishes the nation with hegemonic powers. Individual Americans still enjoy by far the highest GDP per capita, but also are by far less ‘hungry’ for success than other races, nations, and not only the Chinese. Of course, none of it suggests the Republic will fold up soon, Rome began falling apart in the forth century or so, was still around in the 13th, but what it does say is the Americans will have to learn to live in a world of more equal.
Also, the American model of governance may suit a country that has been built from below, it was the small communities that have ceded power to the Federal bodies, not a country that has suffered centuries of governance, mostly dictatorial, from above, have little experience, know-how of diluting the power of the top of the societal pyramid, countries like Russia, China, India.
If this doctrine were as generally valid (and accepted by the ruling American elites) as Friedman implies, what are they going to do with China? Will they stage a coup in Hong Kong, do another Kiev, lure China to take over the territory militarily, then strike at China? Hmmm
Baron happens to know a number of Russians and Ukrainians, there seems no difference between the two, their outlook on issues may differ, but differ only within a broader take, which more often than not is so similar one’s hard put to see any difference at all.
One of the barbarian’s friends thinks Ukraine will be better with the EU, but only if relations with Russia remain as they were before the Kiev ‘fiasco’ (his expression (others still talk about an independent Ukraine). When pushed, however, he says what Baron has told you, too. ‘In the end, when the West tires of us, we’ll embrace our big Russian brother again’. Go figure.

Well, the Ukrainian currency, the grivnya has lost marginally more, the country has no foreign currency reserves, its economy is in shatters, its external debt massive.
Btw, Japan’s Yen has suffered a similar fall albeit in two years, the country’s internal debt is three fold its annual income. You have worries Japan will implode any time soon?

I have deactivated almost everything on the site, so please let me know of your posting experiences today. I have posted several test messages just now, and they take a little longer than I like but have appeared.
If it is nothing on the site itself then it will be some sort of load issue on the server I think. I can only afford shared space and there may be 100+ other websites on this server, so if one of them is causing a problem it will have a knock on effect.
I think in view of the increasing tide of islamic violence in the world the government should look at visa requirements at some countries and impose proper restictions so as to protect the people here.
I would start with pakistan and somalia but I think a longer list may be required.
Some lard arse in Denmark is demanding to be recognised as disabled on account of his bulk, the European Court is ruling on this today. The Government is contacting toy manufactures, urging them to avoid gender specific displays of their products. In Scotland, Guardians are to be appointed in schools to oversee the pupils interests. This I can only presume is because in that neck of the woods they are unaware of the function of parents.
Is this ranting the outcome of my dyspeptic temperament? or is the world we are forced to inhabit becoming more ridiculous by the day in order that it might match the intellectual capacity of the political class? which if it were any lower it would have to be watered.

503 issue.
I have manually deleted about 1000 spam comments this morning. I am wondering if these are having the effect we are seeing. A great many are coming from China, Russia and the Ukraine.
I’ll speak to the hoster.
Not for the acrophobic, nor even those who enjoy the bucolic pleasures and a quiet life among the roses and sylvan glades; but if you feel like being jolted out of your complacent inertia, here are six minutes or so of action packed fun (?):

Bullseye first time that time – you cracked it Peter!
Perhaps we should heed Alex Boot’s advice and nuke Russia, China and Ukraine as well as Kim Jong Won, given the research reported in your 14:53 post. 🙂
Oh F***! That brought another dose of the 503s.
Gerroff! You little fat faced, shaven-headed, pea-brained, retarded Nork nonce! If you don’t surcease forthwith, I shall personally organize a full battalion of Dad’s army version 20.15 to hunt you down and hammer your skull in with a defunct Apple Mac. Or better still, vote UKIP and put Alex Boot in charge of our nuke subs; thereafter tying Alex Salmond to the arse end of one of their missiles before firing it off in the direction of Pyongyang.

Very sad to see that Mandy Rice Davies has died. A notorious character in the sixties, she was certainly no prostitute. What was called a “good time girl”, young and ready for anything. The dreary, hypocritical establishment tried to pin the charge of living on her immoral earnings against Stephen Ward. A lot of nonsense! She was a character that appears in different historical periods, to brighten lives and add spice. Nell Gwynne, perhaps Becky Sharpe, who although a cynical social climber, still retained a huge sense of fun. It’s sad to see her vanish from this mortal coil.
503 no problem to telemachus, Frank
Anne (18:38)
Well, she would say that, wouldn’t she? 🙂
As two by fours go, she was a goer, but as you say, only semi-professional. But sadly, she got caught up in Perec Rachman’s evil web. He, of course, always claimed to be a philanthropist, providing accommodation for people other landlords would not entertain – “No blacks, Irish or dogs”, remember? Uncle Perec ‘ll fix it!
Perhaps philanthropisstaker would be nearer the mark. His ruthless enforcers did the heavy jobs for him. There’s a sub story to all the other sub-stories: one that has never been told. Mandy, Christine and Ronna were just bit-players, ’tis true. But Stephen Ward was no victim. Pimp, ponce – there is a difference, but he was both – and spy, double agent and all round perv. He deserves no sympathy. Mandy did okay as a result of the hoo-hah. Christine less so. Ronna really fell among thieves and junk peddlers after the Rachman era. Last time I spoke to her she was in dire straits. I’d very very surprised to hear that she’s still with us.
Let’s hope Mandy has found her dream world out there in the greater chaos that is beyond all human understanding. Like all lost souls, she deserves a break.

Yes, O’bullshitter was on fine form at the White House Christmas press conference. One again threw the NYPD under the ‘bus, between laying the treacle on with a large label for hoi polloi of the grievance culture and his Alinski-ite puppeteers. Despicable douchebag.
I’m hoping and expecting that the measures I have put in place will improve the situation of posting comments on the site. I won’t say what I’ve done because I don’t want to make it easy on those causing problems.
This pesky tablet, gratuitously changed ‘ladle’ to ‘label’ in the previous comment: and the world is being organized by such technology. A fascinating week for spin. Labour’s ‘don’t talk about immigration’ crib sheet is leaked by the Telegraph. The Barclay Twins’ message is this: there are only two parties in the general election – and this one doesn’t want to talk about immigration. So that must mean the Tories are the opposite to pro-immigration. Vote for them.
The other sleight of hand that is going on is via the polling companies. YouGov, owned by Labour’s Peter Kellner, has dampened immigration as the number one issue (it is), by crafting polls to say the number one issue with the voters is the NHS.
What sort of leading questions were asked to rig that result? That enables Labour to say to journalists ‘oh, yes, NHS is the number one issue. So that’s what we’ll talk about. The NHS is full of foreign staff, so we need more immigration.’ And the taxpayer-funded costs these staff need terms of healthcare, education, and public transport infrastructure? Not talked about.
And a wonderful ‘don’t talk about the big subject’ story earlier in the week. When everyone wanted to talk about the events in Sydney, the Telegraph closed comments on all the stories for that but left them open on a Fleet Street fill-some-space-to-distract-the-punters article by Boris Johnson on a cereal bar in Brick Lane. Let’s pretend that’s what today’s politcal debate is about: overpriced cereal. I mean. let’s not talk about another jihadist, who – like so many Muslims – has a huge history of sex crimes. And likes killing non-Muslims on the rampage in Sydney.
And the final piece of spin on that story in Sydney is this. No one in the Press points out that the jihadists have ‘got it’ about the internet. As with the Lee Rigby killing, this was another atrocity designed offline, where it couldn’t be watched. So just who is all this cyber security, in the name of ‘national security’ for? It’s clearly not good enough to stop North Korea hacking the West. If they can do it, so can China and the Russians and many more besides.
So who’s all the web spying for Theresa? Mr Hogan-Howe? It’s to spy on the poor general public. The web spying is designed to spy on people who tell the truth about Islam. The authorities cannot stop Muslim terror attacks any more with web spying and they can’t stop foreign countries hacking their own multi-nationals. But they want to spy on Joe Public. Yet no one talks about this in the MSM. That’s the strangest thing of all and the biggest piece of spin. The silence speaks volumes.
We’ve got Muslims walking about the Anglosphere killing and raping in a way that says ‘I’ll get away with this because the authorities always kow tow before my religion’ – and the response is ‘spy on the public who complain about the threat’.
Spot the pattern – how far apart the dates are – this is a concerted spin campaign by CCHQ promoting Sajid Javid, drip, drip, drip – all in the guise of ‘independent’ media (Tory rags):

Somthing’s afoot here. It may just be that as Sayeeda Warsi was withdrawn from public view that the Tories decided they needed at least one high profile Muslim in the cabinet. Bang on about his Thatcherite beliefs to appease the core voters and court the Muslims with his Musliminess. And how to get him into public consciousness: say he will be the first Muslim prime minister – people will click on stories with that clickbait headline. That will make people know who he is. Give him some public recognition.
I don’t think he’s genuinely being lined up as the first Muslim Tory leader. That job is clearly earmarked for Kemal Johnson.

An updated version of Black Dwarf circa 1968. A little more ‘sophisticated’ but the same subversive purpose. Fast forward to 2068? Someone should write a novel based on an extrapolation of exponential decline of The West. Where is the new Orwell? Thus far Mark Steyn has used statistical prognostications laced with inimitable satire. Perhaps he should try his hand at a novel al la Eric Blair.

“…The biggest black swan of all, Eric, if the Russians get thoroughly angry, all they have to do is call up the European governments and say, ‘We no longer sell natural gas or any other form of energy to members of NATO.’ The consequence would be the utter and total collapse of NATO. Not even a puppet state like Germany is going to let the people freeze to death, let the factories be closed down, and let the unemployment rate hit 40 percent. It’s just not going to happen — it would be the end of NATO…
…Putin is going to reorient Russia to the East. Then you are going to see Russia, India, and China, take over the leadership of the world. That will start in 2015.”

Injustice is all around us: From the hierarchies that dominate education, housing, health, and criminal justice, here in Britain, to the massively unequal distribution of wealth and welfare, across the globe. Yet, despite these glaring inequalities, the way in which these hierarchies are racialised is too often a side-thought, merely an optional approach to understanding power in the modern world.
As London (as well as Britain), sees its demographics change, to better-represent the peoples colonised by the British Empire—African, Asian, and African Caribbean people in particular—it is more urgent than ever that we equip ourselves with radical and critical intellectual tools, to uncover the ways in which these hierarchies are indeed racialised and to understand how and why these racialised hierarchies endure.
We need to identify, analyse, and evaluate the intellectual roots of unjust racialised hierarchies, by attending to the way in which they intersect with gendered, classed, sexualised, ability-based, and belief-based structures of power, by attending to the way in which they flout traditional academic disciplinary boundaries, and by attending to the way in which they are inextricably bound up with Empire and its legacies. Empire is and must be our point of departure.
White Power is a fact of life in a range of fields, such as security, immigration, social policy, foreign policy, political economy, community organising, communication studies, public health, activism, education, the arts, sport, human resources, religion or faith, international development, marketing, academia and many more.

There isn’t any ‘white power’ at all. Where is the book of ‘white power’? There is a book of Mulsim power called The Koran that enshrines in British law Muslims’ views that they can ‘make war on the unbelievers’. We know that the Bible has some unappealing passages but they are not on the scale of The Koran and its followers don’t walk about the street beheading people. Like they do in London. In fact, as London has become more diverse, people are more likely to have their head cut off by Muslims, or have their bodies ripped to pieces in a 7/7 style bomb. You’re spinning, tele.

Where was this ‘respected institution’ when Lee Rigby’s head was rolling about in a little river of blood on a road in south London? Preaching this drivel about ‘white power’ no doubt.

A ‘deal’ with Cuba! Making friends with enemies while you go after other enemies!
Retired Indian Ambassador M K Bhadrakumar says it is clear the US is starting to use radical Islamist agents in its war to dismember Russia, via covertly US-backed Islamic ‘terrorism’ in the Caucausus and Chechnya, with significant spill-over for India, Afghanistan and all of South Asia … and eventually to be used against heavily Muslim-populated Xinjiang province China.
Bhadrakumar paints a picture of how the US is picking off its major opponents via dividing them, temporarily offering olive branches and ‘deals’ to Cuba, Iran and China, while focusing on wrecking Russia and Syria … but the US very likely aiming to destroy Iran and sabotage China as well, after Russia is dispatched.
Though Bhadrakumar has long had a foolish soft spot for Obama, Bhadrakumar cites how it is increasingly clear that the ‘Islamic State’ in Syria and Iraq, is run by US and Israeli intelligence agencies (hence all the question marks over the ‘beheadings’ – which look like pantomime propaganda).
Bhadrakumar makes a convincing case we are seeing the USA attacking Russia in a process of seeking global control, assisted by the US’s Anglo and EU poodles – his article is here:

Chimp Smoker (16:59)
The political analysis of anybody with a ‘soft spot for Obama,’ past or present, must be consumed only with a municipal-gritter-load of sodium chloride. The current POTUS was placed by the cabal of Alinski disciples to undermine the US hegemony, not strengthen it. It was clear that was the game before he was elected (to anyone with a modicum of knowledge about his and his controlling cabal’s pedigree). The next two years will be fun as further chaos ensues on the lame duck-pond. The ensuing four? Who knows – when we are into the hands of an electorate States-side that installed the ‘Manchurian Candidate’ – twice; the vast majority devoid of any geopolitical nous whatsoever, a fair percentage of them unaware even of who was their father. The race war that is responsible for his success comprises, on the one side, a large majority percentage who will never give up their valuable victimhood and on the other side a large majority who are guilt-ridden as a result of perceived historical oppression by their forefathers and will do anything to prove that they are not racist, which per se is the very essence of racism.

Yes, Frank, there is no one in the world who opens their mouth without having an agenda, and certainly not ex-ambassadors, but what’s your alternative? That I take the Western mainstream media about Russia at face value?
The alternative version of events as set out by Bhadrakumar is Sky TV, BBC, Daily Telegraph, Daily Mail etc. And they’re not biased too?

There are perhaps many other notions in between, including mine, which could be just as wacky or skewed as any of them. “A ‘deal’ with Cuba! Making friends with enemies while you go after other enemies!”
I think this is president Obama’s take on the maxim which he spins as “The enemies of my country’s constitution are my friends”.
Mark Steyn’s view is sadly uplifting – a better world , taken all in all? At the time of the trial of Stephen Ward, I was working after leaving school in my first job at a firm opposite the Old Bailey (and next to the Magpie and Stump as I remember). It was what would now be called my ‘gap year’, although at that time for me there was no gap, just an endless vista of packing and may be one day even selling fine children’s clothing and fine women’s underwear for Sharp Perrin’s in Britannia House where I not only whistled while I worked but sang songs with words and melody with a manic Irishman called Malachi Keegan. From the humble fields of Essex etc. PC Frank P might well have been on duty outside the court and keeping an eye on me for deviant behaviour even back then.

” … might well have been on duty outside the court and keeping an eye on me for deviant behavior even back then.”
Is that a cough – or even a boast – to being a nonce that escaped my attention? 🙂
I can put your mind at rest: that was the City Police patch, any time I spent there was when giving evidence at the OB about nonces, ponces, thieves and robbers from the Greater London area. Minor knicker-sniffers in the City were fairly safe. The City Police didn’t have much of a vice squad. Their fraud squad was a bit naff too, given what was going on all around them. The Square Mile, from a policing standpoint, was mainly ceremonial. Until the IRA struck, that is; that was a wake-up call – and then the SHTF.
Two NYPD patrolmen gunned down in Brooklyn: executed by a black nutter with a beef, obviously stewed up by Barack Obama, Al Sharpton and Warren Wilhelm, Jr. aka Bill de Blasio, aka Mayor of New York, who have all spewed out racist rhetoric since the shooting by Police of a black robber in Ferguson, Mo. and the confrontation in Staten Island between another black criminal and police who arrested him and he subsequently died of a heart attack after the struggle during his resistance to arrest.
If Bill Bratton, the Police Commissioner (who once vied for the Met Police job in London), doesn’t resign as a result, as a mark of disgust at the provocative language of the above named ‘leaders’ of American politics, then he confirms what I always suspected him to be – an opportunist bullshitter.
Nice Christmas present for the families of the fallen cops, not to mention NYPD in general, who have has their hands tied behind their backs in the recent anarchy on the streets of New York.. At this moment I am watching, on Fox News, the Mayor mouthing hypocritical rhetoric and platitudes in ‘condolence’.
Your racist invective when you threw New York’s Finest under a bus, is partly responsible, Mayor. Crawl back under your stone!

Here is a view on the implications of the murder of the New York policemen:
“…I am a son of New York and my uncle was a member of the Nassau County police force back in the day when non-judicial punishment kept people out of jail and got them back on track with tough love….My personal estimate is that roughly 70% of us support law enforcement today. The militarization of law enforcement has been a horrible wrong turn, but law enforcement is paying for sins it has not committed — the larger more pervasive sins of constant betrayal of the public trust at the federal and state levels…”.

It seems there is a lot of spam coming our way. Which isn’t helping. 110 IP addresses have been blocked automatically which prevents them accessing the site, and so the levels of posted spam are less, and the pressure on the db therefore reduced. But being on a shared server, I am thinking that if other sites on the same machine are facing the same pressures then it adds up to a lot of spam which is slowing the machine down.

Yesterday, December 18, 2014, the Dutch Public Prosecutor’s office (OM) announced that Geert Wilders he would be prosecuted for the questions he asked of PVV supporters about “fewer Moroccans” in The Netherlands.
Let’s hope the public get behind him and bring down the Dutch government.
With the anti muslim marches getting bigger every week in Germany it’s getting a bit hard to ignore.
I have followed Alex Boot’s lengthy essay here and, over the past three weeks I have also followed Peter Hitchens’ blog on the same subject. Hitchens has written about half a dozen essays there, very long and frequently debating individual posters (didn’t telemachus try that with Hitchens once and flounce off?).
There seems to be less in dispute between these two schools of thought than may first appear. I don’t think either side doubts that Putin is a ruthless, devious ex-KGB merchant who should not be trusted. But he’s not after us.
The dispute seems to be over what happened in Ukraine and who was the real aggressor and whether there were false flag events designed to make Russia look like the real aggressor.
Today, Hitchens summaries why he believes it is Obama, Cameron and Co that are the aggressors. Obama and Cameron are both pro-EU fanatics. This is what they, the EU and the Bilderbergers want. More federal control for them. Why are they going after Russia?
This is not about supporting Putin as a hero. He plainly isn’t. But why are we going after him?
Why did we go after Saddam when we cannot even protect people in London and Sydney and so on from Islamic terror? Why weren’t people deported and the borders closed?
People were led into a war with Iraq that achieved the sum total of xxxx all, apart from ex-squaddies coming back to the UK with limbs severed off or – a lot of them ending up in jail. Who gained from that? Not ordinary people who have to walk down south London roads getting their head chooped off. A few multi-nationals made a few bob and filled their boots from government contract. But there was xxxx all in it for Joe Bloggs-Rigsby.
Thers is a war to be fought. It is with Islamic terror and it is within our borders. When there are mass deportations and no sharia then I might believe the authorities about who my enemy is. But Russia has got xxxx all to do with me, or anyone lese I know.
Grabbing its assets might make a few rich multi-national boss Bilderberger types richer (which what I think is really going on). But it’s got xxxx all to do with me.
Vladimir Putin doesn’t care about me. But there are people less than 10 minutes’ drive from me (and you) who hate me to my very core and would slice my noggin off if they were only here in greater numbers (not long now). So I don’t buy Barack Obama and David Cameron’s spin that Vladimir Putin is my problem.
Peter Hitchens:
HEADLINE: Forget ‘evil’ Putin: we’re the bloodthirsty warmongers
This is a time of year for memories, and the ones that keep bothering me are from my childhood, which seemed at the time to be wholly happy and untroubled.
Yet all the adults in my life still dwelt in the shadow of recent war. This was not the glamorous, exciting side of war, but the miserable, fearful and hungry aspect.
My mother, even in middle-class suburban prosperity, couldn’t throw away an eggshell without running her finger round it to get out the last of the white. No butcher dared twice to try to cheat her on the weights.
Haunted all her life by rationing, she would habitually break a chocolate bar into its smallest pieces. She had also been bombed from the air in Liverpool, and had developed a fatalism to cope with the nightly danger of being blown to pieces, shocking to me then and since.
I am now beset by these ingrained memories of shortage and danger because I seem surrounded by people who think that war might be fun. This seems to happen when wartime generations are pushed aside by their children, who need to learn the truth all over again.
It seemed fairly clear to me from her experiences that war had in fact been a miserable affair of fear, hunger, threadbare darned clothes, broken windows and insolent officials. And that was a victory, more or less, though my father (who fought in it) was never sure of that.
Now I seem surrounded by people who actively want a war with Russia, a war we all might lose. They seem to believe that we are living in a real life Lord Of The Rings, in which Moscow is Mordor and Vladimir Putin is Sauron. Some humorous artists in Moscow, who have noticed this, have actually tried to set up a giant Eye of Sauron on a Moscow tower.
We think we are the heroes, setting out with brave hearts to confront the Dark Lord, and free the saintly Ukrainians from his wicked grasp.
This is all the most utter garbage. Since 1989, Moscow, the supposed aggressor, has – without fighting or losing a war – peacefully ceded control over roughly 180 million people, and roughly 700,000 square miles of valuable territory.
The EU (and its military wing, Nato) have in the same period gained control over more than 120 million of those people, and almost 400,000 of those square miles.
Until a year ago, Ukraine remained non-aligned between the two great European powers. But the EU wanted its land, its 48 million people (such a reservoir of cheap labour!) its Black Sea coast, its coal and its wheat.
So first, it spent £300 million (some of it yours) on anti-Russian ‘civil society’ groups in Ukraine.
Then EU and Nato politicians broke all the rules of diplomacy and descended on Kiev to take sides with demonstrators who demanded that Ukraine align itself with the EU.
Imagine how you’d feel if Russian politicians had appeared in Edinburgh in September urging the Scots to vote for independence, or if Russian money had been used to fund pro-independence organisations.
Then a violent crowd (20 police officers died at its hands, according to the UN) drove the elected president from office, in violation of the Ukrainian constitution.
During all this process, Ukraine remained what it had been from the start – horrendously corrupt and dominated by shady oligarchs, pretty much like Russia.
If you didn’t want to take sides in this mess, I wouldn’t at all blame you. But most people seem to be doing so.
There seems to be a genuine appetite for confrontation in Washington, Brussels, London… and Saudi Arabia.
There is a complacent joy abroad about the collapse of the rouble, brought about by the mysterious fall in the world’s oil price.
It’s odd to gloat about this strange development, which is also destroying jobs and business in this country. Why are the Gulf oil states not acting – as they easily could and normally would – to prop up the price of the product that makes them rich?
I do not know, but there’s no doubt that Mr Putin’s Russia has been a major obstacle to the Gulf states’ desire to destroy the Assad government in Syria, and that the USA and Britain have (for reasons I long to know) taken the Gulf’s side in this.
But do we have any idea what we are doing? Ordinary Russians are pretty stoical and have endured horrors unimaginable to most of us, including a currency collapse in 1998 that ruined millions. But until this week they had some hope.
If anyone really is trying to punish the Russian people for being patriotic, by debauching the rouble, I cannot imagine anything more irresponsible. It was the destruction of the German mark in 1922, and the wipeout of the middle class that resulted, which led directly to Hitler.
Stupid, ill-informed people nowadays like to compare Mr Putin with Hitler. I warn them and you that, if we succeed in overthrowing Mr Putin by unleashing hyper-inflation in Russia, we may find out what a Russian Hitler is really like. And that a war in Europe is anything but fun.
So, as it’s almost Christmas, let us sing with some attention that bleakest and yet loveliest of carols, It Came Upon The Midnight Clear, stressing the lines that run ‘Man at war with man hears not the love song which they bring. Oh, hush the noise, ye men of strife, and hear the angels sing’.
Or gloat at your peril over the scenes of panic in Moscow.

Hitchens saw off Thucydides who used to post pompous and snide comments at the other place. The approximate equivalent of Malfleur here.

Good piece, albeit a bit Halls of Academe-ish in it’s style. Seems even the literati are beginning to feel the threat to their comfortable lives. If the cops stand back and let it roll, then this date will become an historical landmark. Bratton should issue an ultimatim to ” de Blasio” – either you go, or I will. Chances of that. A big fat 0, IMHO.
Tele and chums like to say: Why do you single out Muslims as paedos and rapists?
We don’t. We hate Peter Hayman and Co too. As to Muslims, they have a long-established culture of it: Prophet Mohammed paedo-raped Aisha. Rape is a weapon of war to Muslims. They use it for submissiveness. They do it in huge numbers and no on in their community (including the women folk) shops them. So it is the Muslim rapists who single out their victims, not in tele’s world upside down version of events, people who want justice singling out the perpetrators.

You seem unaware that I have supported Mr. Hitchens’ position on Russia and Putin in the matter of Ukraine and have for instance been generally critical of Alexander Boot with the view expressed in his “useful idiots” article that a call to arms by the west would be in order. I have requested to any takers, without response, some statement of the British interest in supporting the war party. Pomposity may be in the eye of the beholder and pots may sometimes call kettles black.
For Frank P’s opinion
“Child sex abuse inquiry ‘should have statutory power’ – May” There seem to be great problems in finding an impartial panel, or even individuals to investigate sexual abuse of children by important men, some M.Ps. Could Malcolm Rifkind or some other eminent tory be considered?

Muhammad as you well know married Aisha
A great majority of Scholars of Islam now agree that Aisha was really 17 to 20 Years Old at the time of the wedding
*
According to almost all the historians, Asma the elder sister of Aisha, was ten years older than Aisha. It is reported in Taqreeb al-Tehzeeb as well as in Ibn Kathir’s Al-Bidayah wa al-Nihayah that Asma died in the 73rd year after migration of Muhammad when she was 100 years old. Now, obviously if Asma was 100 years old in the 73rd year after Migration to Medina, she should have been 27 or 28 years old at the time of migration. If Asma was 27 or 28 years old at the time of hijrah, Aisha should have been 17 or 18 years old at that time. Thus, if Aisha got married in year 1 AH or 2 AH (after Migration to Medina), she must have been between 18 to 20 years old at the time of her marriage.
The age of marriage in Saudi Arabia is less than 5 years old. And many small children are indeed married to adult men and expected to engage in sexual acts with them. They are living out their understanding of Islam. And I think we can expect Saudi Arabia of all places to understand Islam.
This concern about A&E departments being overworked, and ambulances and paramedics in short supply, is rather like putting the horse before the cart. If G.Ps, who are extremely well paid, worked at weekends, and on an evening and night rota, I believe that many people would not be forced to seek help at hospitals. Too many G.Ps today keep office hours, unlike the dedicated panel doctors of old. Also, when one manages to get a G.P to respond to an urgent weekend call, more than likely a locum is despatched, who often can harldy speak English, nor is familiar with the patient’s medical history.
Anne, I agree. It is becoming impossible to see a GP for anything important and so everyone is having to turn up at A&E.
tele, as you know full well, under the law as it is enforced in Britain, Aisha’s age means that sleeping with Aisha amounts to statutory rape.
The fact that she consented to the act has nothing to do with it.
That’s why the UK has the problem in the first place of hordes of Muslim men raping underage girls.
Rape is rape, screams The Guardian and its chums. But not now? Not with the precious little Muslims? Why the change? Rape is rape, we’re told. Why do the Muslim lovers chage their tune when the Muslims rape en masse and with poilitical venom?
Your digging up of some taqqya-monger pretending Aisha wasn’t the age she was doesn’t change the fact that she was nine when Muhammed raped her and that his actions have spawned copycat Muslim paedophile rapes all over the world, notably in the UK, where people like you have one set of standards and laws for Muslims and another for everyone else.
Those hordes of raping paedophile Muslims in Rotherham, Bradford and all the other places in the world know full well where they acquired their moral licence to rape from: a politically driven religion that promotes child marriage, and that people like you plead to be given special privileges.
No wonder they’re on a non-stop paedophile rape fest – you encourage them.
Were you in Rotherham cheering on like a shrieking loon when they plied the thousands with alcohol to make their memories hazy and unreliable witnesses in court?
Or just laughing about it at home?
Sorry about faux pas. Cart before the Horse!

There is no lower age limit for rape in islam comrade tele, our old friend, the chairman of the CII Maulana Muhammad Khan Sheerani, says so. (H/T AC Park. Are you really Korean?)
I’m slightly surprised that you support this nonsense, given its abiding affront to the feminist agenda you gramisciists also like to propagate on the long march. (May the soles of your boots wear out on the stony path ten miles before the next (load of) cobblers may be found.
“Why is the council concerned with men’s four marriages and why have they done nothing to ensure that women get their property as enshrined in the Islamic Law? Or why have they failed to stop practices such as vani, swara and karo kari? Or stop rape, and acid crimes against women?” wondered Dr Nafisa Shah, coordinator of the PPP Human Rights Cell.
“Unfortunately Islam has been misinterpreted over time by a mindset and a particular school of thought. Islam and modernism are compatible provided progressive scholars interpret the religion.” she added.

John Jefferson Burns – December 20th, 2014 – 18:59
Well, all y’all hot diggety, John Jefferson Burns.
Have yourself a merry little Christmas out on that down home back porch, where your good ol’ foot-tappin’ life will take a turn for the exciting as you watch them good ol’ down home worms a-come crawlin’ out of that cold hard ground, yessiree.
Is it true that when you were last in Cornshire, you shot a man in Redruth just to watch him die?

I’m getting really pissed off by all this political bs about the need for panels of the Great and the Good, headed by a Judge who is Greater and even Better – to decide on whether horrendous and perverted crimes were, or were not, perpetrated by politicians and other officials against vulnerable children in the care of local authorities in years past.
It’s all a load of cobbler’s awls. If evidence does indeed exist, whether verbal testimony, or forensic corroboration, I simply cannot countenance the proposition that there isn’t a good top sleuth remaining in the Met, assisted by a back-up team that could follow the evidence arising from the allegations and test it to either prosecutorial indictment, or destruction.
If, indeed, there is no such talent left in the Met. – then give me back my warrant card and I will wrench out of retirement a team of like minded ruthless and honest ex-colleagues who will adduce the facts for a case; or establish once and for all the lack of such evidence and bury the bollocks forever.
And I will write a report that, one way or another, will convince either a jury, or hoi polloi of the truth of the events, insofar as it is humanly possible (given the passage of time, since the alleged offences occurred). And if there is not a currently active QC capable of presenting the case, or a Judge capable of adjudicating the evidence, then I’ll ferret some of the best ones of yesteryear to do the job instead.
F*** the jumped-up, never-come-down, scaly-backed poxiticians! They are slippery weasels. This is a job for the unpolticised police.
That’s my honest opinion Annie. Let’s turn back the clock and have some straight talking.
The lie of modern slavery.
More bad law from bad, mad kitten heels.
“…According to The Science, there were between 10,000 and 13,000 slaves in the UK last year. Professor Bernard Silverman, who came up with this figure, was less than categorical about the objectivity of his ‘statistical analysis’. He said ‘modern slavery is very often deeply hidden and so it is a great challenge to assess its scale’. A ‘hidden’ problem that cannot be seen and which is a ‘great challenge to assess’ is nevertheless captured by the ‘first scientific estimate’! Here, science is used metaphorically to lend meaning to a crusade, to provide campaigners with a vague estimate — what is usually known as a guestimate…”
Most law (but not all) is bad law, think climate change, Human rights, equality…what do politicians make it? Is it to justify their existance?

Frank, you say it just as it is. Bravo! Would there more who had the guts, brains, you name it. This Brave New World is so full of BS (as you describe it on your post 23:29) that I often feel as though I am living in an alien world, or worse that perhaps I am the alien!
So how will the bottle conceived children of this strange deluded pair of sods be protected from the immoral predations of the homosexual community?
Oh they won’t?
so why criticise kiddy fiddling politicians and DJs, whilst praising this perverted ‘pairing’?
Well, okay, ACP, I suppose one of ’em can at least knock out a ditty and the other can bang a decent tune on the Joanna. I just wish they wouldn’t insist on sanctifying fudge-packing and thereby offend the sensibilities of our old pal Alex Boot and our blog-host.
Noa (23:55).
You have neatly conflated two of my recent comments. Exactly right!. Hypocrisy in spades, by the so-called G & G! Not unconnected with the passing of Mandy R-D, also.
Read Willie Donaldson’s “Both the Ladies and the Gentlemen” , one of the wittiest (in fact belly-laugh inducing) true accounts of the visceral interaction between the high-life and low-life of London circa, ’72.
Thanks Frank, it’s a penny on Amazon, we’ll give it a try.
I’ve nearly finished Tooze’s “The Deluge”, about the new American world order post 1919. It’s a been worthy read but not exactly a laugh a minute.
It’s not just about hypocrisy, it’s also about control. The Frank Furedi post I linked to above (23.21hrs), makes the point succinctly:-
“…Those who presume the authority to define who is and isn’t a slave are also in a position to determine the prevalence of slavery. If they can say ‘You are a slave, whether you know it or not’, then they have extraordinary power to pretty much create as many slaves as they like. It is their perceptions, rather than individuals’ own experiences, that determine how the problem of modern slavery is defined. The inflation of the definition of slavery is paralleled by an inflation of the figures. The advocacy organisation Unseen claims that victims of modern slavery are literally unseen. And that is a good thing for the police, officials and campaigners, who prefer to deal with invisible crimes rather than the very real ones that are all too apparent to the naked eye…”
And there is nothing more apparent to the naked eye than Messers Reggie and Dwight standing in the middle of the pitch at Watford Football Club, clutching the hands of two little boys to the moronic cheering of it’s supporters. Money and a suspension of removal of moral values, removes all protection from those who need it most.
Q-What do the Rotherham muslim rape victims and the boys in the clutches of Reg and David have in common?
A-No one in a position of responsibly gives a damn or will look to protect them.
The winter solstice not only brought the depravity of the two assassinations in New York, but later heralded a call from across the pond to inform us of bad news concerning friends there. The wife of one of my oldest pals was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer; both she and her husband were mutilated in a serious road accident a few years ago; it seems that the SBBOFF are determined to test their mettle to destruction.
In an effort to distract myself from the vicarious pain, I clicked into Gerard Vanderleun’s blog; fortuitously his yearly reprise of the Gloucester Cathedral Choir’s performance of “In the Bleak Midwinter” immediately restored my soul to a modicum of hope for the human spirit, reawakening the memories of childhood joy at the wonders of the Christmas message.

And just for good measure his previous post contains a sincere prayer that also soothed my troubled soul:
http://americandigest.org/mt-archives/grace_notes/sitting_in_darkness_1.php
Enough to make even a hardened old cynic like me believe that perhaps … just perhaps … ??
I offer this post, in good faith, to all those friends here who are believers that good exists and the rewards for practicing it are awaiting in the celestial hereafter, whilst accepting that my own chances of such benign happenstance are profoundly unlikely, particularly in light of some my earlier posts today.
May you all have a very happy Christmas and a very prosperous New Year. And may whatever it is the controls the GSOT, grant us relief from the particular one of the SBBOFF who controls the 503 glitch that, for me anyway, is the third, though comparatively minor, of the usual trio of perennial disasters that inevitably accompanies the Christmas break.
… and just to prove my point, the 503 glitch punched me in the ribs 7 times. Obviously all seven of the blind bastards of fickle fate are conspiring in that one. ‘ere we go agin! Then I’m orft to bed.

‘cobblers awls’…well, I live and learn!
But I think May would dearly love so see this whole issue roll into the long grass. But she knows she can’t be seen to kick it there, at least not this side of the election, so she’s making the opposite noises.
And maybe my thought processes work differently, but I can wholly understand the unwillingness of any of the Great and Good to come within bargepole reach of the whole farrago.
No 503s up here in the Northern Marches, but posts ARE a bit on the very slow side. 🙂
The cash strapped NHS is going to spend millions on a project involving genetic material, in order to understand and identify DNA. All in the name of medical knowledge and to cure diseases. Fine. If you believe that is what they want the DNA for, you will believe anything!
Noa:
quite, Noa, most laws today have nothing to do with those made in the past when law making relied on the consensus of the majority, most, if not all, statutes now are of the malum prohibitum kind, more often than not have no backing of those subject to thme.
Btw, the link to spike d you’ve offered doesn’t work, it says the page cannot be found.
Frank:
You getting seriously pissed, Frank? Hmmm. From where the poorly educated Slav sits it looks being pissed is you permanent state of being, and just as well because you’re at your best when anger consumes you.
Something Baron feels he has to tell you, but you may skip it, it isn’t of any importance.
Returning from a visit to a hospital to have his blood tested, Baron parked his motor in a supermarket car park in the town centre. Nothing unusual for someone in need of abit of Christmas shopping, you might think, but for an accident, and quite a serious one that happened as Baron was spending his meagre pension money.
The police came quickly and, as it’s their right, blocked one of the streets though which a massive amount of traffic has to pass. Not only from the car park Baron was stuck in, but from another large supermarket next door, a huge sport centre and five converging roads. In most days, and without an accident, traffic never flows smoothly in that part of town.
The traffic froze, nothing moved, about a dozen police officers were in attendance assisted by three wardens. After about half an hour, Baron had an idea, which was for the police to divert the traffic through a bus station. The barbarian approached the top dog of the police, but was told, politely, to go, sit in the car, wait until the accident is cleared. ‘It’s a bus station, there are pedestrians there’, said the man in charge, ‘we cannot do it’.
Another hour passed, nothing has moved. Baron left his car again, made an approach to a much higher ranking officer. He arrived in an unmarked car, blue light on top, said nothing to any of the other police officers around, just stood and watched.
Despairing that he might not make it home before Christmas Eve, Baron walked to the important one, repeated the idea, also telling him why the other officer turned it down. The smartly dressed copper said ‘thank you’, nothing else, and Baron walked away thinking the officer probably thinks ‘here we have another fugging foreign sounding meddler telling us what to do, why doesn’t he mind his own business …
But, nope, the top guy called the police officer that didn’t like Baron’s suggestion, said something to him. Immediately, two other officers galloped to that part of the street where the cars would divert through the bus station, and voila, the traffic began to more than inch forward. Slowly, but noticeably, and within about three quarters of an hour, the cars moved through the place as well as one could expect given the blocked artery.
What do you reckon, Frank, does the barbarian qualify to advice the men in blue? He’s rather pleased with himself, even though it was just common sense, everyone who knows this part of town could have figured it.
EC 12/21/14
Problem with you Limeys is that you have no consistency in names.
Even so little old JJB knows that Torquay is in Devonshire not CornWALL.
My wife dear Ellie May is partial to the North Devonshire Coast and we will be visiting with my cousin near Clovelly in the New Year.
Tell me EC why your counties have Chief Constables and not Sheriffs?
“In 1999 Lord Justice Sedley championed the rights of people to express such views, and quoted Socrates and two famous Quakers in doing so. There is no breach of the peace if what is uttered is merely offensive. He said: “Free speech includes not only the offensive, but the irritating, the contentious, the eccentric, the heretical, the unwelcome and the provocative, providing it does not tend to provoke violence.”
.
And therefore if I choose to be so, I shall be not only offensive, but also irritating. If I want to be contentious, I shall be, and maybe hold eccentric an heretical views. I don’t care if my comments are unwelcome or even provocative as long as they do not provoke violence.
So to all the followers of the PC doctrine – “Stick that in your pipe and smoke it!” and I don’t care if it does increase your carbon footprint.”
